Director Data Governance

What will I be doing?

The Director of Data Governance will establish and oversee the development and implementation of organizational roles, policies and processes to ensure the accuracy of master data throughout the end-to-end data lifecycle. The Director will manage development and maintenance of data management standards and provide oversight of activities across lines of business.

Director of Data Governance within Information Management & Analytics department:

  • Coordinates enterprise data governance program development.
  • Leads Data Governance Committee in establishing priorities, driving and measuring progress and auditing data governance activities within HGV.
  • Implements and maintains a data governance strategy for HGV to support the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Implements solutions to improve data quality within HGV.
  • Coordinates with Legal to address regulatory compliance around data and limit organization's exposure to a data breach, including data retention rules, GDPR, CCPA, etc.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to establish consistency in developing recommendations around policies, standards and framework for data governance.
  • Collaborates with partners across the enterprise in designing and maintaining the data governance and data quality structures ensuring business needs are met while balancing quality, risk and cost.
  • Map and assess current processes and structures for data governance and identify gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Lead and implement a multi-year data governance roadmap.
  • Facilitates strong engagement of data stewards and data custodians to ensure HGV's Data governance function delivers measurable business value.
  • Leads multi-functional teams to map out data needs; advise business on meaningful data and champions data appropriateness and communicate the opportunities and challenges.
  • Provides leadership to other business and IT projects to ensure accurate alignment to data governance policies. Support project activities such as data migration and data validation.
  • Serves as a point of escalation for high-impact data governance and data quality issues.
  • Participates in data governance practices including qualifying and maintaining operational and financial metadata, handling reporting hierarchies, and improving and maintaining data quality and sources.
  • Presents oral and written presentations to key partners. Has the ability to lead and influence across these stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a business-related field with an emphasis in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Accounting, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or Computer Engineering
  • 5 years of experience in positions of increased responsibility in data governance.
  • Minimum of two or more (2 ) years of management experience with professional-level direct reports.
  • Management experience in Finance/IT/Operations
  • Proven ability to communicate at a technical level and to non-technical end users
  • Experience with large scale data programs or solutions
  • Experience developing and maintaining data catalogs
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement efforts
  • Base knowledge of data management practices (data quality, metadata management, data security/privacy and master data management)
  • Established leadership ability to be able to influence others and drive change management and adoption
  • Proven leadership experience leading and developing team members to achieve strategic objectives
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form. 


It would be helpful in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • Master's Degree
  • CPA
  • Previous role as a Director
  • 3 years of experience in the Information Management/Data Governance space
  • Timeshare industry experience
  • Experience in Data Governance tools
  • Experience in BI tools
  • Experience in Oracle or similar financial reporting tools
  • Experience with SOX/ITIL controls
  • Experience in Regulatory compliance
