Adult Psychiatric Prescriber

Public Health is seeking a part-time Adult Psychiatric Prescriber to work in their Mental Health Center. The Adult Psychiatric Prescriber (MD, DO, or APRN) will provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and ongoing treatment services for adults with serious and persistent mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.

The Mental Health Center is licensed by the state of Minnesota as a Rule 29 Community Mental Health Center and is staffed by a dynamic team of psychiatrists, advanced practice registered nurses, clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurses, clinical social workers, and other health care professionals.

Salary, job class and PTO accrual rate will be based upon qualifications:
Psychiatrist $71.03 - $117.65 Hourly
Nurse Practitioner $31.60 - $66.19 Hourly
 
*This position is recruitment critical and eligible for an employee referral bonus. Current Hennepin County employees who refer candidates may be eligible for a $500.00 referral bonus.

Location and hours:
This position is based out of the Mental Health Center located at 1801 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55403. Work hours will be Monday through Friday (32 hours per week), between the hours of 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. This position offers weekday hours with no on-call shifts.

About the position type:
This is a part-time (0.8), benefit earning position.

In this position, you will:
  • Assess and treat persons with mental illness, especially persons with serious and persistent mental illness and persons with co-occurring disorders.
  • Serve as an active team member of a multi-disciplinary team to plan, deliver, monitor, and revise individualized mental health treatment.
  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments of medical, physical, and psychosocial status for assigned patients.
  • Triage patients who require a higher level of care.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medication. 
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of observations, interventions, referrals, and follow-up; develop patient care plans.
  • Obtain and evaluate patient health and medical history and document in the EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Attend required meetings; actively participate in quality improvement work; and special projects.
  • Provide psychiatric consultation to other staff as needed.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community service providers.
Need to have:
For hire as a Psychiatrist:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with an M.D. or D.O. Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree and completion of an approved internship and formal residency and one year of professional psychiatric experience.
  • Possession of a valid license to practice medicine issued by the state of Minnesota and eligibility for board certification in psychiatry.
For hire as a Nurse Practitioner:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Possession of a valid license as a registered nurse issued by the state of Minnesota and a National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (CNP).
  • Certification as an adult nurse practitioner or an approved equivalent as provided under M.S. 148/284.

  • Experience working with EPIC or another similar electronic health record system.
  • Sensitivity to the needs and issues of diverse and disenfranchised individuals.
  • Strong leadership, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently and interdependently with professionals from other disciplines.
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.
For hire as a Nurse Practitioner:
  • Valid Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner certification by an agency authorized to certify professional nurses in advanced practice.
  • Experience working with EPIC or another similar electronic health record system.
  • Sensitivity to the needs and issues of diverse and disenfranchised individuals.
  • Strong leadership, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently and interdependently with professionals from other disciplines.
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.
