In 2023, Haynes and Boone will move its headquarters to a new 27-story office tower in the Harwood District of uptown Dallas. Lawyers in our Dallas office serve all the firm’s practice and industry areas – including corporate, litigation, banking/finance, insurance law, healthcare law, labor and employment, estate planning, real estate, bankruptcy, intellectual property, white collar crime, and antitrust. This position will assist the Intellectual Property practice with its docket database to enable and ensure timely responses to U.S. and foreign patent prosecution matters.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain and update U.S. and foreign patent prosecution records in our docket systems to track deadlines associated with obtaining and maintaining domestic and foreign patents;

  • Maintain current deadlines in accordance with correspondence received and prevailing country law requirements;

  • Assist in verifying and updating the status of patent and trademark cases with the USPTO and various foreign PTO’s;

  • Docketing of internal docket slips;

  • Creation of new matters in database;

  • Running various docket reports along with completion of assigned special projects, etc.;

  • Provide assistance to attorneys and paralegals with U.S. and foreign prosecution deadline verifications as needed.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship

The Docket Clerk reports directly to the IP Support Manager.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience

IP Docket Clerk position requires no less than one year of experience with Intellectual Property deadline docketing; experience with US and foreign patents, Trademark experience a plus.

Skills

Experience with electronic docketing software application(s); familiarity of docketing Best Practices; strong attention to details and accuracy review; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Adobe, and ability to adapt to new computer software required.

Education

High school diploma required.  A college degree preferred

Physical Demands:

Must be able to move around the office up to 15% of the time to make copies, file, etc. Remains stationary at least 85% of the time. This position operates computers and other office productivity machines (e.g., copier, printer, etc.) on a regular basis. Occasionally required to move documents or files weighing up to 15 lbs. This position requires constant communication and exchange of information with the Firm attorneys, clients and staff. This position must be able to inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 80% of the time.
