Position Function SUMMARY:
The Accounting Manager is a critical role within the Finance and Accounting Department. Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) the Accounting Manager will be responsible for the oversight of staff Accountants and maintenance of financial data that supports effective management and decision making throughout the organization. The Accounting Manager position will be responsible for recording and verifying financial transactions and preparing account analysis as requested. The Accounting Manager will also be expected to optimize Management Information Processing (MIP) General Ledger and other module utilization while assisting in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports. This position will be responsible to keep the CFO informed of daily finance operations and changes that may affect business and work closely with the CFO and the Controller to learn the higher level of business operations and assist in refining and developing policies and processes and procedures that will enhance finance operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provides oversight of accounting staff and positions, including support and cross-training within accounting positions, and ensuring back up is available when needed. Responsible for ensuring smooth flow of operations while maintaining separation of duties.
- Responsible for oversight and accuracy in recording of the events in the General Ledger through Journal Entries and monthly GL reconciliation. Oversees setup and maintenance of the GL accounts.
- Reconciles banks statements as needed.
- Performs assigned month-end closing activities including journal entries, and account analysis, to ensure its integrity and timeliness.
- Prepare and review supporting schedules related to monthly and annual financial statement closing process for specifically assigned accounts (ie. grants, contracts).
- Oversees and assists in monthly financial statement preparation and review.
- Investigates material variances in key income statement line items from budget and prior periods, as needed.
- Performs special analysis/research and reporting as required.
- Contributes to the external audit and tax process, and other processes as requested, such as Annual Medicare Report, UDS, PPS Rebasing, various monthly and/or quarterly reporting, with supporting documents, preparing schedules, and answering inquiries, and any other preparation as needed.
- Assists the CFO with the development of software systems and processes, and recommends improvements when necessary.
- Assists with contract/grant and insurance oversight and agency reports as needed.
- Assists with development and reporting capabilities related to HICHC’s systems such as MIP, Intergy Practice Management and Practice Analytics, Epic, QuickBooks etc.
- Works closely with the CFO and Controller on additional projects, communicates and collaborates with other key stakeholders within the organization when necessary.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or other related field.
- Advanced level of knowledge in Finance policies, procedures and regulatory requirements are highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Three years in a Management position in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience with Management Information Processing (MIP) or similar accounting software desirable.
- Excellent attention to detail and time-management skills.
- Ability to plan and manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as government regulations and guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.
- Ability to write at a reasonable level of competence, including internal reports and memoranda.
- Ability to communicate with diverse groups of people to include staff and providers and patients.
- Sensitivity to the multicultural nature of the service area population.
