Job Description

Position: Admissions Coordinator (2 Full Time and 1 PRN position available)



Monday-Wednesday 8pm-8am (Full Time)

Thursday 8pm-8am (PRN)

Thursday-Saturday 8am-8pm (Full Time)

Pay: PRN Starting at $13.00/hour, Full Time Starting at $14.00/hour

Job Summary:

Responsible for making judgments concerning the authorization of services via pre-approved protocols, interfacing with physician offices and health plans on utilization issues.  Coordinates the admission of patients. Responsible for maintaining patient records, assisting in answering the telephones and assisting the unit staff with their needs.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

Applicants must have excellent verbal/social skills, customer service and be able to multitask.

Must be able to effectively communicate with families and referral sources. Must have excellent computer skills, proficient with different EMR system and a critical thinker.

Confer with physicians, nursing and other hospital staff members and external parties to coordinate and schedule the admission of a patient.

Interviews patient and parent/guardian to obtain personal and financial data to determine eligibility for admission.

Interfaces effectively with HMOs

Gather and process admission data in a timely fashion.

Voicemails and faxes are addressed in a timely fashion.

Performs duties in a timely and efficient manner.

If you run out of things to do, it is your responsibility to ask for further directions.

Patient information is filed in a timely fashion.

Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients, their families and referral sources.

Information given is accurate and complete.

Patients are not confirmed as being here without patient code and caller must be listed on the contact sheet or have assigned release.

Information given is clear and understood by the patient.

Ensures efficient telephone communication and the telephone is answered within three rings.

Messages taken are accurate. The appropriate message forms are used.

Respects the dignity, confidentiality and privacy of patients.

Information from medical records is released in accordance to state regulations.

Complaints are handled in a professional manner.

Abusive patients are referred immediately to security.

Whatever promises are made to solve the problem are followed through.

Education, Experience and Training Required:

·        High School Diploma

·        One to two (1-2) years’ experience in healthcare preferred.
