Job Description
Harrison Gray Search has partnered with an outstanding non-profit organization in West Michigan seeking a Chief Financial Officer.JOB SUMMARY:

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for coordinating and supervising the financial management, financial planning, and accounting administration for all organization funding. The Chief Financial Officer directly oversees the fiscal department within the organization, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting of financial information. With wide latitude for initiative and independent judgement, the Chief Financial Officer provides leadership, direction, and management of the fiscal department


  1. Performs agency treasurer responsibilities; prepares and maintains agency-wide operating budget and cost allocation plans; reports financial activity to governing boards, executive committees, and management staff; oversees program budgeting and financial reporting to awarding agencies and internal program staff; provides guidance and recommendations to ensure full and proper utilization of grant awards; supervises agency audit and federal and state monitoring visits.

  1. Ensures proper maintenance of accounting systems, including internal controls and financial procedures.

  1. Oversees the preparation and distribution of financial statements.

  1. Ensures legal and regulatory compliance regarding all grant management and financial information.

  1. Maintains cash flow planning and ensures availability of funds to meet immediate needs. Oversees the investment in interest bearing accounts and the allocation of interest to appropriate funds.

  1. Oversees procurement and asset management.

  1. Implements financial strategies and maintains banking relationships.

  1. Coordinates budgets and ensures appropriate maintenance of state and federal funding streams.

  1. Remains current on audit best practices and state and federal laws, ensuring staff are informed and appropriately trained to adhere to guidelines.

  1. Represents agency on all financial matters.

  1. Supervises fiscal staff, assigns work, provides guidance/direction, evaluates employee performance, and assesses need for training.

  1. Attends professional development activities, seminars, and participates in external boards and committees.

  1. Participates in continued process improvements.

  1. Other duties as required


  1. The job requires a bachelors degree in accounting or Finance.

  1. Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

  1. Four to Six years of relative accounting experience with governmental, non-profit or other community service agencies preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience including a strong working knowledge of fund accounting and use of cost pools.

  1. Interpersonal skills necessary to act as official spokesperson for the organization and interact with a diverse group of employees and to work productively with all levels of organizational personnel.

  1. Advanced computer skills necessary to oversee organizational computer strategy and operations.

  1. Leadership skills necessary to formulate plans, provide strategic direction and guide organization toward operational success, including the ability to develop and implement systems and procedures.

  1. Supervisory skills necessary to effectively manage the daily operations and administration of assigned functions.

  1. Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

  1. Experience working with external auditors, internal controls and compliance-related issues.

  1. Thorough knowledge of management procedures and methods as related to program reporting, budgeting, accounting and related information systems and processes.

  1. Thorough knowledge of the Office of Management and Budgets (OMB) Uniform Guidance.

  1. Ability to prepare routine and special reports as required.
