Expired: May 20, 2023 Applications are no longer accepted.
  • Full-Time

The Company

Halo Industries has invented a technology to replace a decades-old semiconductor material wire saw slicing process that wastes billions of dollars annually in high-value materials.

Halo's laser-based technology eliminates this waste from the silicon carbide (SiC) substrate manufacturing process, delivering improvements in both material cost and performance, while enabling accelerated growth for a diverse set of high-growth applications markets, including the electric vehicle, grid infrastructure, industrial HVAC and other high-voltage power electronics sectors.

Halo originally spun out of Stanford University in 2014, acquiring a significant series A round of VC funding in 2020 following the successful demonstration of the company's precision material slicing equipment. Today, Halo is driving the fast-scale growth of the company's manufacturing operations.

Halo Industries is well-funded, deeply engaged with multiple strategic customers, and staged to achieve rapid operational, revenue, and valuation growth.

Halo Industries is seeking a senior-level Instrumentation Engineer, who will drive the integration and deployment of proprietary and commercial hardware and software solutions, enabling the control and automation of our laser-based material processing systems. Working with Halo's product development and manufacturing technology teams, the hired candidate will contribute to the definition of Halo's process control design and implementation methodology.

This is absolutely a hands-on role. The hired candidate will work with a wide range of technologists, from Halo's technicians to our CTO, delivering the combination of hardware and software solutions optimizing Halo's manufacturing efficiency and outcomes.

The primary deliverables/responsibilities of the position include:

  • Evaluation of Halo's proprietary manufacturing platforms, including associated I/O requirements, to identify high impact opportunities to improve the efficiency and performance of the company's volume manufacturing operations
  • Research and selection of automation, input/output, and sensing solutions to be used to achieve optimal systems level performance
  • Acquisition, integration, test, and documentation of selected hardware and software components
  • Definition and design of safety systems for complex, laser-based, material processing platforms and integrated manufacturing lines
  • Driving the safety and quality certification processes associated with the release of material processing systems to Halo's volume manufacturing environment

  • Bachelors-level degree in electrical, systems, or an appropriate alternative field of engineering, with advanced degrees desired
  • 5+ years of applicable industrial process control experience, with semiconductor and/or laser-based capital equipment experience desired
  • Broad understanding of manufacturing equipment automation approaches, architectures, methods, and techniques
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware and software solutions from vendors driving the evolution of manufacturing equipment automation
  • Leadership of multiple successful systems/automation design cycles, including taking the design through required safety and certification processes
  • Experience working with mechanical, optical, and laser development engineers is highly desired
  • Knowledge of best practices for the design and construction of highly reliable, easy-to-maintain manufacturing systems
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and safety codes associated with the design, build, and automation of electro-mechanical and optomechanical systems, with experience supporting laser-based systems is highly desired

  • Semiconductor industry experience

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
