Diesel Shop Manager - HD Repair Center
Location: Plainfield, IL
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a driven individual who takes ownership of the equipment and maintenance shop to join our team. As a Diesel Shop Manager, your key responsibility is to execute the daily processes and activities involved in all aspects of our diesel fleet maintenance facility. This multifaceted position has you accountable for managing a group of technicians and ensuring shop efficiency and safety operations.

Responsibilities:
- Manages department staff with responsibility for scheduling work assignments, performance management, discipline, authorization of overtime, training and other assigned duties.
- Communicates with operations regarding status of fleet vehicles and equipment on a regular basis.
- Monitors and inspects equipment while work in progress and at completion to ensure quality and safety standards are maintained.
- Maintains adherence to company policies regarding operations and safety issues while maintaining a safe and productive work environment for all employees.
- Drafts and implements standard operating procedures (SOP’s) to ensure safe, quality and efficient operations throughout shop.
- Maintains safe practices and procedures. Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, State and local codes, regulations and requirements. Monthly and weekly safety Coaching and compliance. Works with safety manager to drive the maintenance safety program. Provides and assists with safety training for all maintenance employees.
- Maintains an ongoing preventive maintenance program to assure vehicle safety and operating efficiency.
- Ensures corrective maintenance is performed safely, effectively, and expeditiously in order to avoid unnecessary downtime of vehicles and/or equipment.
- Performs necessary research to ensure that tool/equipment purchases are advantageous to the company and presents recommendations for the acquisition of new and/or replacement tools/equipment.
- Manages vendor relationships to ensure warranty repairs and cost-effective maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Controls maintenance costs relating to personnel, purchasing, inventory control and outsourcing of repairs.
- Coordinates purchase activity with shipping/receiving clerk.
- Reviews fleet performance and identify low performing fleets or vehicles, develop and execute action plan to improve performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position oversees subordinates and is responsible to:
- Set expectations and ensure accountability for subordinate staff as a group and as individuals.
- Identify performance issues, address them with employees, and communicate said issues to the President. Develops and implements performance improvement plans when needed.
- Analyze current personnel and technology resources, identify needs in both, and work with the leadership to develop additional capabilities when needed.
- Train subordinate staff from both a skill set and experienced-based perspective. Works with employees to create short and long-term career development plans.
- Administer personnel functions including recruiting, hiring, review, and approval of job descriptions, selection and placement of personnel, performance reviews and evaluations, and compensation planning.
What you need to succeed:
- Minimum 3 - 5 years of Advance knowledge of Class 8 truck drivetrains and diagnostics Also, knowledge of truck and trailer, electrical, hydraulic and structural systems
- Prior management or leadership experience preferred.
- Proficient computer skills in applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Must have valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record (A CDL required)
- A motivated self-starter with a demonstrated team player mentality.
