Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday; No Weekends / No Call

Child Life Specialist Job Summary:
Provides for the developmental needs of hospitalized children age 0-21 to include advocating for psychosocial, emotional, physical and cognitive needs. Decreases the anxiety and/or trauma with illness and hospitalization through interventions, which promote play, learning, mastery, self-expression, and peer interaction. Educates staff and the community concerning the developmental needs of hospitalized children, reactions of children to illness and hospitalization, and family centered care. Advocates for policy and standards of care which support the special needs of children and families.
Designs activities that promote the social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of children. Serves as an advisor to hospital staff on the psychosocial needs of children and their families. Utilizes health care play, developmentally appropriate activities, volunteer workers and educational materials to help children and families adjust to the hospital environment and to prepare them for events related to illness and hospitalization. Assists with process improvement studies in the areas of psychosocial and developmental disciplines.
Child Life Specialist Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Child Life or Child Development and a Child Life internship program of 400-650 hours under a certified Child Life Specialist
- Must be certified under the specifications for Child Life Certification by the Child Life Council, Inc., or eligible to sit for Child Life Certification exam. Must obtain certification within 18 months of hire date.
- One year experience preferred.
