Job Description

 

The Guitar Center Company is seeking a Taxonomy Analyst who will be responsible for managing and executing various taxonomy designs and improvements to our existing structure. This role supports taxonomy optimization efforts, taxonomy releases, and will closely collaborate with cross-departmental stakeholders to strengthen our customer navigational experience in alignment with the overall GC findability strategy.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Engage in taxonomy research to support customer experience needs and to facilitate product findability online
  • Design and deploy taxonomy, facet models, and additional structures to positively impact the customer navigation experience
  • Perform category/attribute audits to proactively discover opportunities and implement solutions
  • Monitor taxonomy deployments and provide before/after analysis of changes post-launch
  • Collaborate with other taxonomists on establishing best practices and editorial guidelines for taxonomy development in a musical instruments space
  • Participate in quarterly and yearly roadmap prioritization efforts
  • Drive continuous improvements on taxonomy research, development, and deployment processes
  • Take ownership of taxonomy process improvement projects and adapt to a changing environment
  • Work with subject matter experts to develop semantic models which capture customer behavior and implement navigational solutions
  • Conduct internal stakeholder trainings, presentations, serve as point of contact, and evangelize information architecture best practices to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and process manual updates to product parent/child variations and reclassification
  • Create instructions for third-party solutions partners
  • Manage and maintain metadata projects including those found in Product Information Management (PIM) and third-party systems
  • Additional duties as assigned

Requirements

To join our band, you'll need the following experience:

  • Master's in Linguistics, Library or Information Sciences (or similar discipline), OR 6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted
  • 3+ years professional experience (with at least 2 years of taxonomy work, search, controlled vocabularies, and/or linguistic annotation in an eCommerce environment)
  • Demonstrated professional knowledge of semantics, dictionary building, controlled vocabularies, classification, ontology and/or taxonomy
  • Proven taxonomy design decisions with an aptitude for translating customer experience use-cases into excellent taxonomy design
  • Experience presenting complex topics in a concise way to diverse cross-functional teams and all levels of leadership
  • Experience with developing complex taxonomies, thesauri, and ontologies
  •  Demonstrated project management skills with experience in leading complex team projects, new process improvements or otherwise architecting overarching metadata solutions
  • Adept in creating flow diagrams, schematics, and other artifacts to communicate information architecture principles
  • Comfortable working with content management and/or content indexing systems
  • Skilled proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

  • Fluency in a foreign language
  • Skilled in data analysis, semantic modeling, knowledge and ontology engineering
  • Comfortable using ontologies to support data integration
  • Experience with building graphs
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, SQL
