Marketing Operations Director

The Director, Marketing Operations is a key member of the Marketing Leadership team and will lead critical processes, initiatives, programs and efforts across the Creative and Marketing teams to drive continual process improvement, capacity management, marketing and advertising production and service delivery. In this highly cross-functional role, your goal will be to lead a team to operationalize marketing's strategy and creative deliverables, scale the team's operating model globally, and create efficient and effective ways of working.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the Marketing Operations function for Guitar Center Marketing, Creative and Content efforts ultimately driving operations for the in-house creative agency output with intake from Marketing and cross-functional departments.
  • Lead a department that includes Project Management, Production, Scheduling and Workflow assigned personnel to achieve objectives, develop personnel and assure strong and ongoing communications.
  • Have a view of all creative requests, work in process and marketing calendar needs for each brand. Manage workflow, requests and capacity to flawlessly deliver all marketing support efforts. Evaluate and prioritize jobs based on department capacity to maximize impact of marketing tactics and maintain department flexibility.
  • Develop, analyze, and continually optimize marketing processes and programs on an ongoing basis by working closely with the Marketing Leadership Team and maintaining the Guitar Center Marketing operational playbook
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to build and optimize cross-functional Agile/Lean/KanBan processes (including software and marketing project technology, intake, project management, working documents, roles and responsibilities, communication flow, chain of command, escalation plans, etc.)
  • Working as part of the Marketing Leadership Team, create and maintain SLA scorecards, calendars and project management tracking tools; enabling visibility into overarching trends among varied projects and processes to help increase efficiency, profitability, and quality.
  • Build scalable and measurable project timelines and collaborating with cross-functional teams on meeting the execution timing on key project activities. Keep all projects on task, cost and on time
  • Take ownership of and maintenance of all Marketing software/tools for calendaring, tracking, project management, creative and marketing work products to help create visibility and efficiency across the organization
  • Monitor feedback from the stakeholders to improve process and promote efficiency by analyzing workflow performance and identification of key workflow and capacity performance metrics.
  • Liaison between marketing and operational departments (E-Com, Stores, UX, Dev, PIM, DAM, etc) to ensure consistent delivery of projects and management of dependencies.
  • Strong grasp of collaboration and asset management tools, ideally with experience implementing new tools, technologies and Agile-based frameworks.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant, progressive .management work experience in marketing operations in a high volume marketing supported organization. High priority on creative / marketing operations capability and experience.
  • Strong leadership skills and interpersonal relationship skills to manage and collaborate with leadership, peers, direct reports and cross functional partners, develop team members and assure communication and engagement across the Marketing Operations department.
  • Strong project management skills to assure delivery of all projects on time, within budget and within scope by leading and managing direct and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven track record developing and executing change management strategies with the ability to communicate throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Understanding of and experience in directing the creative process and production across marketing needs and a deep understanding of the marketing operations environment and what it supports. Knowledge of Video, Audio, Social Media, Print, Online, Email, CRM, SEO, SEM, QA, UX, Dev, e-commerce, mobile + mobile apps, and all marketing and media content deliverables.
  • Proven ability to build systems and operations-based strategies and communication flows that are efficient and drive success for the team
  • Experience with organizational development building high performing teams is essential. Understand ideal marketing operations department structure in order optimize the flow of production, and execute deliverables within SLAs.
  • Deep knowledge of creative and production processes, tools, technology and significant work load management
  • Handle a variety of projects with shifting timelines, with an understanding of the frenetic pace of marketing and retail.
  • Managed the development of operational processes, roadmap architectures, and strong resource planning
  • Sound and solid leadership capabilities. Experience leading a large team in a fast-paced environment. Highly capable communicator that can see all efforts in progress across the marketing landscape.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience and familiarity with marketing technology, operational tools, work-stream management software programs and automation systems (e.g. Workfront, Adobe Campaign Manager, Jira,Base Camp, QuickBase, etc.)
  • Experience in production environments managing tracking / reporting / data analytics and operations activities
  • Strong proficiency in standard Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer) required
  • A self- starter, that needs little direction and thrives in dealing with ambiguity
  • Ability to forge excellent internal communication with team members and able to build excellent professional working relationships
  • Experience in managing an in-house creative agency or advertising agency operations department with creative production capabilities, a plus.
  • Candidates should be strategic, innovative, detail-oriented and resourceful
  • Collaborative / team player comfortable leading as well as executing and taking constructive input from multiple interdepartmental sources. Ability to forge excellent internal communication with team members and able to build excellent professional working relationships
  • Excellent presentation, communication, follow-through and analysis skills
  • Ability to handle multiple layers of team building and operations-based initiatives effectively in a high-pressure environment
  • Candidates should be strategic, innovative, detail-oriented and resourceful
