Job Description

The Vice President, NPHS Strategy and Business Development is accountable for leading the GuideOne NPHS strategic plan. Responsible for driving financial goals by identifying targeted appetite segments, sourcing new underwriting teams, books of business, MGU relationships, building and maintaining large accounts pipeline and relationships with key NPHS broker partners.  Supports distribution by assisting agents and Territory Account Executives to clearly define and relay our appetite and value proposition.  The role will also act as the company expert in gathering market knowledge and building the necessary competitive platform to grow in our desired niches.




Develop and Lead GuideOne’s NPHS strategy and appetite

·         Identify NPHS segments with profitable growth potential, including both current and new niches

·         Build the roadmap and pro-forma to achieving short and long term financial objectives

·         Work with leadership to create risk mitigation strategies and reinsurance structures to limit exposure to Abuse, SAM, Auto and social inflation exposures

·         Supported by the Director of NPHS Product Development, gather competitive intel and analysis

·         Determine business strategy and define innovative solutions

Solicit, identify and attain  books of business that align with our identified appetite

·         Uses industry knowledge and relationships to identify, attract and retain books of business, underwriting teams, MGU partnerships and broker relationships that align with our profit and growth objectives

·         Achieve goals in book diversification, growth and profit

·         Works to maintain disciplined, productive, and profitable relationships with key decision makers. Delivers a consistent message to relating to the value of doing business with the company.

Build compelling value proposition based on NPHS customer needs

·         Create customer solutions, such as integrated telematics, policyholder incentives and consultative products and services

·         Collects, prepares and presents all relevant data regarding NPHS production and performance. Analyzes information and identifies relevant trends


Serve as GuideOne liaison with Key broker partners

·         Communicate appetite, value proposition and successes – internally and externally

·         Work with VP – Distribution Management to track and communicate broker goals and results.

·         Support Territory Account Executives and Underwriting leaders as needed.

·         Collect market, agent and broker feedback and communicate throughout the core business group.



Number & Titles of Direct Reports: One



Internal:  Territory Account Executives, Senior Management, Underwriting, Home Office Underwriting

External:  Top-tier brokers, large independent agents, MGU’s and Captive Managers



·         Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Business or related field.



·         10+ years of insurance experience.

·         Relationships with large independent agents, national/regional brokers, MGU’s, Captive Managers and Reinsurers

·         Ten (10) years of experience managing and growing a team.

·         Insurance sales experience, underwriting/agency management and/or business development, preferred.

·         Professional designations (CIC, CPCU, CLU, AMIC) desired.

·         MBA preferred.



·         Demonstrates the ability to use common and complex concepts, practices and procedures within the Sales and P&C Insurance fields. Demonstrates expertise with a variety of sales and business development concepts, practices, and procedures.

·         Must meet or exceed the ability to demonstrate GuideOne leadership core competencies:  Communication, Making Sound Business Decisions, Developing Others, Achievement Orientation, Adaptability and Leadership Maturity.

·         Convey clear, concise information to others, using appropriate communication techniques.

·         Demonstrates leadership experience and presentation skills.

·         Relies on extensive experience, relationships and judgment to plan and accomplish job responsibilities and goals.

·         Proven experience with Microsoft Office.  Formulate and prepare complex reports, spreadsheets and budgets using Excel and Access programs.  Design PowerPoint presentations.

·         A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. 

·         Travel is required.
