Gryphon Scientifics International Engagement practice area is seeking a Senior Analyst to lead tasks on international engagement projects, primarily focused on global health systems strengthening and laboratory biosafety and biosecurity. This Senior Analyst will work closely with Project Managers, Principal Investigators, and other senior research staff to lead implementation of a global portfolio of projects. Senior Analysts are typically supported by Analysts and Research Assistants, who conduct initial research and analysis, draft technical documents, and prepare workshop materials. This position requires critical thinking, problem-solving, and strong communication skills to develop and implement innovative, collaborative, and sustainable solutions to challenging health and security problems worldwide. Our projects seek to strengthen health and laboratory systems, improve cross-sector and regional collaboration, and address emerging threats. This Senior Analyst role primarily will support projects in Gryphons International Engagement practice area, but you may have the opportunity to work on exciting projects in other practice areas. (Note, you will not be involved in laboratory work; is no lab on the premises.)


  • Provide technical leadership for key project deliverables on international engagement projects, including workshops and research-based work products. For example, you may develop policy frameworks pertaining to laboratory systems strengthening, or write white papers highlighting international best practices in responsible conduct of research in collaboration with international partners.
  • Manage work performed by junior researchers, shaping research directions, developing work products, and providing technical mentorship.
  • Recruit workshop participants, lead development of training and workshop materials, and help facilitate engagements.
  • Lead the development of trip reports and after-action reports clearly summarizing outcomes of engagements for clients, workshop participants, and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Principal Investigators, Project Managers, and other Task Leads to manage the budget and schedule for tasks, ensuring milestones and deliverables are completed on-time and on-budget.
  • Support regular project reporting, including drafting technical sections of quarterly reports and reviewing financial reporting.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for international project partners, including subcontractors and consultants, participants, and other international stakeholders, while proactively building relationships with these stakeholders.
  • Contribute technical expertise to proposal development and other business development opportunities.
  • This position involves occasional work at non-standard hours to participate in early morning or evening calls with international partners in other time zones.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D., DVM, MD or other terminal degree in a life sciences related discipline and at least 2 years experience in a relevant field such as global health, public health, emerging infectious disease, microbiology, or One Health
    • OR a Masters degree and at least 5 years relevant work experience;
    • OR a Bachelors degree and 8+ years relevant work experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government client requirements.
  • Must have a valid passport or be willing to obtain one.

Required Skills

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Technical writing skills that will be used to develop effective training and workshop materials, written reports, and policy, plan, and guidelines/SOP documents for a variety of scientific and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership to scientific projects, through mentoring junior personnel or leading subtasks on multi-stakeholder projects
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure that a project is completed comprehensively and on-time
  • Experience working in diverse teams and cultivating relationships with external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with external stakeholders in a clear, concise, and respectful manner, including verbal and written communication

Additional Skills and Experience

  • Understanding of international and regional frameworks and policies related to global health security, concepts in and best practices for infectious disease outbreak preparedness and response, laboratory biosafety and biosecurity, responsible conduct of research, or other relevant topics to the duties listed above
  • Experience working with international partners, particularly from the Global South
  • Ability to organize and facilitate dynamic and interactive workshops
  • Experience developing and implementing training using active learning strategies with adults

Travel Requirement

  • This position requires international travel 2-3 times a year, for approximately a week each time, to implement in-person engagements involving international partners. Travel may be required to countries with vaccination requirements for entry.
