ABOUT GROWING HOME

Growing Home is a USDA-Certified Organic Farm located at 5814 S. Wood St. Chicago, IL 60636. We are a non-profit organization that is committed to the continued growth of the community we serve. Through our food access and job training program, we are a valued resource for the Englewood community. Growing Home believes that everyone deserves a good job and good food. Everyday we are working to meet the needs of our residents through food education, urban farming, and our job training program.

ABOUT INTERNSHIP

Growing Home hosts interns year-round depending on need and availability. Interns’ work location and schedules depend on which department they are working with. Interns may be assigned to various departments within the organization (Admin, Development, Farm, Community Engagement, etc). If a particular applicant is interested in working with one or more departments, at times we are able to do a cross-department internship if we have the work available at that time of the season.

At Growing Home, we understand that internships are an important learning experience for applicants. Thus, we prioritize projects that balance what we need done at Growing Home and what are great learning experiences for an intern to build his/her/their skills. We do not task interns with minute roles such as making copies and “getting coffee”; in return, we expect that interns are ready and motivated to do meaningful work at Growing Home.

At this time, this Internship opportunity will be unpaid, and there will be no offer of employment after the conclusion of the internship commitment. However, Growing Home staff will happily write letters of recommendation for Interns upon successful completion of the commitment. Additionally, if the intern is enrolled in an academic program, Growing Home will happily submit supporting documentation if the intern wishes to obtain academic credit for the internship.
