The Account Director role sets the tone for our success, both inside the agency and with our clients. They know how to leverage their experience to earn the trust of a client team and use that trust to introduce forward-thinking solutions that achieve clients’ objectives and create new opportunities for the business. As a leader within the agency, they identify innovative ways of working to improve our services, mentor team members and ensure the successful delivery of our work on time and on budget, every step of the way. This is a role that is critical to delivering creative and thoughtful solutions that meet and exceed client expectations. They have the trust of their team and the trust of their client to manage tight deadlines and prioritize work.


In support of one of Group SJR’s largest consumer-facing clients in the audio and technology space, this role is a dedicated and integral part of the client account team, managing a wide range of projects within the corporate communications space. The ideal candidate is a strategic, critical and creative thinker, with a diverse skill set inclusive of writing, research, organization, and client management. This candidate is able to take individual initiative, execute projects with consistent quality and has an extreme eye for detail. As a leader on the account, the ideal candidate is expected to come to the table with creative and strategic counsel for even the most senior levels of clients. They are professional, nimble in a crisis, and incredibly smart in the way they approach a critical client issue. No one day on this team is the same, so the role requires ingenuity and problem solving, with an enthusiasm for taking on new and challenging projects. A key tenant of this role is responsiveness, accountability and interest in working in a collaborative and fast paced environment. The role reports into the account lead. 


  • Comms Planning and Messaging Development 
      • Develop comprehensive strategic communications plans inclusive of internal and external comms strategies and tactics, scenario planning, stakeholder analysis and risks/watchouts
      • Write detailed external and internal facing messaging on various topics to support strategic plans for both internal and external audiences 
      • Develop executive positioning plans 
      • Develop executive briefing documents
      • Develop executive remarks and accompanying strategy documents
      • Develop internal and external facing comms presentations for executives and various company initiatives
  • Strategic Counsel for Senior Leadership
      • Displays abilities as a proven thought-partner able and willing to provide strategic counsel to top level executives
      • Lead crisis communications responses and show proactiveness and availability to respond to critical business issues
      • Showcase strong and deep industry knowledge that translates into clear and actionable insights across the business.
      • Develop broad strategic initiatives for the business that highlight priority areas in a smart and engaging way to push business goals forward. 
  • Issues Analysis and Competitive Insights Benchmarking
      • Demonstrate strategic thinking by keeping abreast of the client’s business, industry, audiences and competitive environment to build a comprehensive understanding of the inputs that affect their business and keeping the internal and client team apprised of new developments
      • Supervise benchmarking and competitive analysis to inform messaging and comms planning 
      • Provide regular or real time reports as needed to support ongoing or crisis and critical issues management campaigns 
      • Proactively raise relevant industry issues to client and showcase a solutions-oriented approach and innovative POV
  • PR/Media Relations
      • Provide insights and develop recommendations on PR and media relations strategy and tactics
      • Develop relevant messaging and background materials to support media engagement
      • Supervise media monitoring and analyze data from a variety of traditional and social media sources to inform both proactive and reactive communications strategies
  • Account/Project Management 
    • Maintain ownership of assigned projects, keeping timelines on track 
    • Ensure consistent quality of deliverables 
    • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when dealing with highly-sensitive client business issues.
    • Writing timely emails, picking up the phone when necessary, being proactive about in-person meetings, assisting with presentations, sending reports and agendas, etc.
    • Lead client meetings and communications, managing senior-level day-to-day relationships.
    • Able to demonstrate problem solving skills when dealing with client requests & issues; escalating as necessary and creating transparency around the health of the relationship.


  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ account experience (comms/PR agency setting preferred) within corporate communications (crisis and critical issues, corporate narrative building, internal comms, public affairs)
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills     
  • Organized, detail oriented, problem solver, energetic
  • Critical thinker who anticipates issues before they arise and proactively suggests solutions
  • Ability to handle and lead on multiple projects simultaneously and drive them to completion, while being a hands-on team player. 
  • Stellar project management skills with exceptional attention to detail and discipline to organize and prioritize projects
  • Experience working within a fast-paced, high-performance client culture where the business and tasks at hand are constantly evolving.
