Position Title: Food and Beverage Director

Reports to: Assistant General Manager

Supervises: F&B Managers, Assistant F&B Managers, Dining Room Captains, and Support Staff

FLSA Status: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The Food and Beverage Director position is responsible for the efficiency of the food and beverage operation with the objective of ensuring the highest degree of member and guest satisfaction. The Food and Beverage Director leads the charge with creating and improving service standards and training of all front of house staff team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Consistently evaluates SOPs necessary to improve operations. Empower the team to find innovative solutions and prepare to be a club of tomorrow.
  • Manages with an intentional presence on the floor. Actively coaches staff when service standards are not being met.
  • Has a proactive approach to staff needs by meeting regularly for wellness checks and will assist in conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Serve as a ‘right hand’ to the Assistant General Manager. Works closely to streamline objectives and initiatives. This ranges from long range planning to daily operational tasks.
  • Embodies the organization’s core values of trust & teamwork, innovation, balance and appreciation and effective communication.
  • Expected to maintain a healthy work-life balance with a projection of working 40-45 hours on a weekly basis, pending member needs.
  • Assists with preparing the operating budget for the department based upon service needs and projections, as needed.
  • Responsible for the beverage program at the club. Oversees bar operations, including purchasing and inventory, menu creation and implementation.
  • Oversees Wine Locker Club and assists all members with packaged wine sales.
  • Incorporates member preferences into menu creation, event planning and sales initiatives.
  • Works closely with the POS system alongside the Front of House Management team for updates and menu changes.
  • Fosters a team environment between both FOH and BOH leadership teams. Executive Chef is a lateral report, and these two positions work hand in hand.
  • Conducts pre-shift line ups with front of house and culinary team to review member recall information, specials, private and member events, topics of service, etc.
  • Works laterally with the Private Events Manager and Member Relations Director on the set-up, execution, and resets of all private and member events.
  • Fosters a work environment that plays an integral role in retaining staff.
  • Audits and approves bi-weekly payroll.
  • Opens and closes the club as necessary.
  • Assist the Assistant General Manager in monitoring and tracking performance of F&B Management team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5 years of Food and Beverage management experience
  • Demonstrated experience with creating SOPs
  • Proven experience developing and conducting training programs for service staff
  • Sommelier Certification a plus
  • Private club experience highly preferred

  • Strong leadership ability; leads by example through a hands-on approach
  • Ability to create and foster a positive team environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Point of Sale systems
  • Must be highly visible and maintain high level of member contact in all service areas
  • Follows all food & beverage health safety guidelines and alcohol service protocols
  • ServSafe certified preferred
  • CARE or TIPS certified preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time
  • Must be able to move about the dining room to service guests
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of items up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling of items up to 50 lbs.
