JOB TITLE: Garage Mechanic 1/Class or 2/Class

FLSA: Union - Nonexempt

REPORTS TO: Fleet Manager

LOCATION: Springfield

SHIFT: This position will consist of four ten hour days Monday through Thursday 1:30 p.m. to 12:00 midnight.

GENERAL SUMMARY (What is done and why.)
Performs, within the scope of their skills, maintenance and repairs which are needed to support the Fleet. These functions will be carried out in an efficient, safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner. Must have the ability to serve and satisfy internal and external customers and be a strong customer services advocate for the company.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Majority of duties, but not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary.)
Functional: Required to be able to perform all the duties of a Garage Person - First Class. Perform complete mechanical diagnosis, repairs, and adjustments on the Company's entire fleet of vehicles. Have complete knowledge of operating and repairing our hydraulically equipped vehicles. Have knowledge and ability to perform fiberglass repairs. Have the ability to realize when equipment modification is necessary, and be able to make field drawings to support the ideas. Keep current on changes within the automotive industry that relate to Company-type vehicles. Have a thorough knowledge of the safety manual instructions affecting the work, and to perform the work accordingly. Keep informed of any State or Federal laws pertaining to safety and emission systems. Responsible for accuracy of parts used.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position.)
Individual must be qualified to drive Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated vehicles and be in compliance with all applicable State and Federal laws. A high school education or equivalent is desirable. Must have a minimum of 5 (five) years mechanical experience, or work up through our Garage ranks. Must be licensed with the State of Vermont for vehicle inspection. Will be required when necessary, and within the terms of the current union agreement between Green Mountain Power and the IBEW, Local 300, to: A) work other shifts; B) work out in our divisions; C) stay out of town overnight; and D) work in inclement weather repairing or recovering disabled vehicles, or during emergencies. Must live within a reasonable distance of their base of operation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (The physical effort generally associated with this position.)
Internal work routinely includes pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to 120 pounds floor to bench, 70 pounds floor to overhead, and holding 75 pounds at shoulder height. Requires walking and standing on concrete floors for extended periods of time. There is some exposure to fumes from vehicle and forklift exhaust. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.) and motor vehicle operation at certain times of day. Length of day is usually predictable though long hours may be required to accommodate peak periods, customer availability and staffing emergencies.
External work is performed on a more limited basis where there is exposure to outside atmospheric conditions or heat/cold or moisture, over all types of terrain and exposure to traffic while performing outside work. Work involves potential exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., weather, parking lot traffic, etc.).

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS/CONTACTS (Positions, other than supervisor and immediate co-workers, with which incumbent has frequent contact and the reason for contact.)
Internal- Regular interaction with employees from all areas of the company.
External-Contact outside of GMP is usually limited to vendors and peers within the Transportation Industry.

This is for a second shift position in Springfield, this position would consist of 4/ 10 hour days Monday through Thursday1:30 to 12 midnight.
