Title: Marketing Communications Specialist

Reports to: Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications

FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

The overall focus of the Marketing Communications Specialist position is to create and disseminate strategic, high-quality communications that raise the profile and reputation of Greater Bergen Community Action as one of the Northern NJ region’s leading anti-poverty agencies, raising awareness, enrolling programs, driving new business, in addition, positioning the agency as a thought-leader.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Curate social media calendar (40 to 60 posts a month across multiple social networks)
  • Work with Social Media Coordinator to manage Greater Bergen social media accounts including crafting copy for posts, responding to comments, answering questions, and engaging with users
  • Work with Social Media Coordinator to ensure timely, relevant, and engaging content is posted consistently
  • Run monthly social media reports to inform data-driven decision making
  • Act as an agency brand ambassador including internal and external events but mainly across social media networks.
  • The specialist is expected to create and appear in social media content.
  • Produce and disseminate original written content for communications such as press releases, media alerts, website content, social media posts, newsletters, blogs, and thought-leadership content.
  • Optimize website copy and landing pages for search engine optimization
  • Conduct research and interview staff, clients, and others as needed for content.
  • Assist in creation of key messaging and positioning statements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media including industry publications/reporters, consumer press and broadcast outlets with the aim of having GBCA regularly represented including raising the public profile of Greater Bergen executives through broadcast, speaking and byline opportunities.
  • Assist in posting to social media, updating websites, event planning, photography, and videography as needed
  • Other duties as assigned, including presence at community events.
  • Preferred but not required: Produce videos that tell compelling stories including script writing, filming and editing.

Qualifications:
  • BA in marketing, journalism, English, media, or communications or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a communications role; nonprofit communications experience preferred.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Must be proactive, team-oriented, organized, a critical thinker and problem solver.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Wix websites, Sprout Social, Social Media for Business, Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in team settings.
Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
