Job Description

Job Summary:

1. On -site COVID nasal swab specimen collection, labeling and handling in an outdoor setting, provides materials for patient care instruction and results access information, and responsible for set-up and breakdown of COVID testing site (traffic/safety signs, tables, chairs, testing materials, ancillary and accessory items for weather anticipation)

Essential Functions:

1. Communicating with RN COVID Care Coordinator needs and deficits of the testing site (inventory, testing anomalies, patient inquiries, etc.)

2. Successfully complete COVID Test site training and complete competencies:

  1. Proper donning and doffing of PPE
  2. Proper Hand Hygiene
  3. Specimen collection/handling/processing
  4. Adhere to infection control measures

3. Check patient schedule for updates (CPS-12 and Power Apps)

  1. Compare anomalies and changes of schedule to RN Coordinator and/or Provider
  2. Print out Provider Orders to obtain electronic specimen requisition forms

4. Setup COVID Site

  1. Placing safety and traffic signage throughout testing area
  2. Erecting registration/cooling tent
  3. Placing registration/testing tables and chairs
  4. Setting up testing materials
  5. Patient Registration
  6. Greet patients upon arrival

5. Checking-in Patient Arrival via Power Apps on work tablet

6. Providing Patient COVID information materials

7. Performing COVID diagniostic testing

8. Use traffic signs to direct car to testing tent

9. use flipchart to communicate and confirm patient before diagnostic testing begins (two patient identifiers: Patient Name and DOB)

10 Explain diagnostic procedures and what patient will expect during and after, explaining how to obtain results

  1. "Swabber"- Performing the actual diagnostic swab on patient (both nostrils)]
  2. "Bagger"- Placing sticker from requisition form on the specimen collection tube, place a sticker on the paper schedule (paper schedule to be used for specimen reconciliation at the end of work day, hold testing tube open for Swabber to be able to drop saturated cotton swab in saline solution with minimal contact after patient has tested, close specimen tube snuggly, place specimen in the LabCorp bag and putting specimen requisition in the sleeve of LabCorp

11. If electronic specimen is not available, use the manual LabCorp requisition form. The top form of the LabCorp requisition goes with the specimen and the sticker and that form will go directly on the specimen tube. The bottom form (carbon copy) will go in the "Specimen Collection" binder for COVID site records

12. Direct patient off-site post testing

13. Decontaminate workspaces and PPE throughout testing and post-site closure PPE EssebnEss

14. Scanning insurance cards to Patient's EMR for registration

Nonessential Functions:

1. Participates in team/staff meetings; attends in-service meetings and applicable workshops

2. Performs any and all other duties necessary for patient care

3. Ability to list up to 20 lbs during set up and breakdown

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School diploma, GED, or equivalent certification of competency

2. Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assisting Program
