Job Description

A Highly Respected Construction Company is seeking a seasoned Class B Mechanic with experience working with the performance and moderate repair of heavy automotive equipment and construction machinery in a fast-paced commercial construction environment. Skills for the Class B Mechanic:

The Class B mechanic has a basic knowledge of power, electrical and hydraulic systems. Is able to check and adjust hydraulic pressures, run electronic self-diagnostic systems and diagnose engine problems.

    Qualifications for the Class B Mechanic:

  • 2+ years of heavy equipment/construction mechanical experience or trade school and 6 months of mechanical experience.
  • Basic knowledge of power, electrical and hydraulic systems, able to check and adjust hydraulic pressures, run electronic self-diagnostic systems & diagnose engine problems.
  • Safely operate various types of heavy automotive equipment and construction vehicles.
  • Able to use test equipment, gauges, meters, hand-held, and parts manuals to obtain and order parts.
  • Able to work basic computer functions.
  • Must have Class B hand and power tools.
  • Basic welding skills is preferred but not required.
  • Valid Driver's license and clean driving record is preferred.

    Responsibilities for Class B Mechanic include but not limited to:

  • Overhauls and repairs engines, disassembles engines, replaces defective parts, reassembles, and adjusts electric and fuel systems.
  • Repairs and maintains heavy-duty and other construction machinery in the shop and on the field.
  • Inspects work in progress to see that repairs and replacements are properly made and units are satisfactorily assembled.
  • Does skill repair work in installing timing gears, fitting crankshafts, crankshaft cylinders, and repairing hydraulic systems.
  • Inspects, repairs, and adjusts steering clutches.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, gas, and diesel customer-owned equipment.
  • Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments like winches, blades, and side booms.
  • Performing major repair and rebuild work when necessary.
  • Consulting with other mechanics on smaller jobs.
  • Field work to complete pairs at job sites.
  • Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management.
