POSITION SUMMARY: This position will provide the full range of psychological services required to achieve both student and school goals. The position is responsible for providing a broad range of school psychological services that include screening, evaluation, and ensuring student’s eligibility for special education services are determined and appropriately planned for in IEPs and 504 plans. Provides relevant individual and group counseling with students, families, and other relevant individuals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Administers standardized and/or supplemental assessments for measuring the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children and/or determining eligibility for services in compliance with regulatory requirements.

  2. Assesses students' functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment for determining student's functional level and developing recommendations and/or placement.

  1. Compiles information from administered testing a variety of sources (e.g. administrators, teachers, mental health agencies, other professionals, etc.) and produces a comprehensive screening/ evaluation report that states evaluation findings and educational program recommendations in compliance with established guidelines and all OSSE reporting timelines and guidelines.

  2. Participates in IEP and staff meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

  1. Maintains a calendar of all testing and evaluations with a specified report completion timeline to ensure all deadlines and compliance requirements are met. Coordinates all testing and evaluation with the Special Populations Managers to ensure the timeline is appropriate.

  1. Provides related behavior therapy services to approximately 30-40 students who have an IEP or 504 plan and maintains all service trackers in Easy IEP and log entries in PowerSchool.

  1. Collaborates with the Special Populations Manager to ensure all students with IEP and 504 plans are up to date on their evaluation and testing needs and collaborates on case conferences for students.

  1. Collaborates, facilitates, and tracks communication and service delivery with any outside service providers to support students on caseload.

  1. Works with the Special Populations Manager to lead Professional Development sessions for staff related to Special Education, trauma informed learning, classrooms supports, and other related topics to support staff at the Excel Center with our student population.

  2. Works with teachers to:

a.) Identify and resolve academic barriers to learning

b.) Design and implement student progress monitoring systems

c.) Design and implement academic and behavioral interventions

d.) Support effective individualized instruction

e.) Create positive classroom environments

f.) Motivate all students to engage in learning

e.) Support testing and class anxiety with students during the term

  1. Participates on the school crisis team to support students in crisis and support crisis related situations at the school.

  2. Works with the Special Populations Manager, Manager of Student Support Services, Academic Success Coaches, and Excel Center instructors regarding issues and solutions to serving students with disabilities.

  1. Leads and implements small group sessions, in collaboration with the Manager of Student Support Services and the Lead Academic Success Coach, with students outside of behavioral services for students at the Excel Center and creates a small group schedule to support specific needs as identified through observations and trend analysis.

  1. Serves as the Mandated Reporter trainer for GEC, attends all OSSE Mandated Reported Trainer sessions, and coordinates and supports GEC staff in all mandated reporting.

  2. Ensures licensure to serve as a School Psychologist in the District of Columbia is maintained.

  3. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in school psychology or related field with appropriate license and certifications required to deliver services in the District of Columbia.

  2. 3-5 years of experience working in a school environment and collaborating and consulting with school staff.

  3. Demonstrated experience using and administering a wide variety or tools and standardized assessments for assessing a student’s academic, cognitive, and social/emotional/behavioral patterns.

  4. Proven ability and knowledge to create and write recommendations for academic and/or behavioral intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results.

  5. Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative and fast paced work environment.

  6. Ability to manage confidential information and communicate effectively and sensitively with students with special needs and their families.

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the various local and federal policies and procedures schools must adhere to in delivering special education services which include, but are not limited to those from the Office for the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and federal IDEA regulations.

  2. Strong written and oral communication skills required to effectively engage with teachers, staff, parents, and children.

  1. Flexible and able to adapt and shift priorities in an changing, dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Doctorate or Masters degree in Psychology.

  2. 3-4 years of counseling experience in a high needs schools with students with learning and physical disabilities.
