Job Description

Title: Paint Technician
Location : Adrian, MI
Pay Rate : Open

Type of hire : 3-6 Month Contract

**Short term (3-6 months) with opportunity for permanent placement.**
**Anywhere from 24-40 hours per week. No overtime and weekends.**

Position Responsibilities :

  • Maintain production material readiness.
  • Check forecasted material volumes for next 24 hours.
  • Move paint drums of needed material to Paint 5 or ready 5-gallon usage at Two tone
  • Check material for each (vat/drum) level on the paint usage log sheet.
    • Check material viscosities for each (vat/drum) and record on paint supply check sheet prior to production.
      • Use Calibrated Zahn viscosity cup per the type of paint, as noted on the paint supply check sheet record form.
      • Compare results to specifications.
        • If out of spec notify paint engineer/Paint supplier
        • Notify production of material being off.
        • With JS, prepare additional paint to replace if paint supplier cannot fix the issue.
  • Paint – 5, flush out and load paint in piggable systems for Service jobs, flush out lineside and load correct color for Current Jobs, flush and load paint in new Piggable system
    • Move 55-gallon drums from storage to lineside
    • Move 55-gallon drums for flush out waste
  • Note paint usage on required forms, before and after runs
  • Note solvent usage for Two tone
  • Maintain system pump settings and record.
  • Check and record pump pressures and monitor agitation speed.
  • Check and record pump pressure before and after filter.
    • If pressure differential is outside the guidelines, call for a pipe fitter to check and clean filter.
  • Check and record pressure at back pressure regulator.
    • Maintain minimum of 105 psi, record change made.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of all paint related areas where used, poured and stored.
    • Avoid spills whenever possible.
    • Clean up spills immediately and dispose of safely and properly.
  • Maintain all film thickness records for production.
    • Prepare all Mylar tabs for film builds.
    • Record all dry film tab readings for each product and color on the proper forms.
    • Notify production of out of process material immediately.
  • Check all parts painted as required for GM testing specifications including GM9506P, GM9507P, and GM9701P (Adhesion, Dime Scrape, Water Immersion) Save Plaques for a minimum of two weeks labeled with dates on back.
  • Check 1 of each production part style& color to standard to verify that the part is acceptable. Maintain plaque retains for minimum of two weeks.
  • Help paint job setters when needed to review parts in the wet and to help trouble shoot small process problem, contact engineer for support.
  • Run data pak testing for verification for Oven cure temp over time compared to Paint Suppliers Cure latitude charts for their paint.


Position Requirements :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the auto body field
  • Strong attention to detail as an Auto Body & Paint Technician
  • Available to work overtime/weekends when needed
  • Self-starter and self-motivated
  • Must have good organizational skills
