POSITION SUMMARY:
Execute all facets of the Quality Assurance / Food Safety function for the facility. Develop, implement, and maintain Food Safety and Quality programs, procedures, and records to support site food safety culture and to uphold compliance with company standards and certification requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assure that appropriate Quality Assurance procedures are followed to ensure that all products comply with applicable internal and external (customer, SQF, IMS, FDA, GMP, etc.) requirements and standards with appropriate emphasis on food safety.
· Function as the SQF Practitioner for the respective facility which includes implementing and maintaining the SQF system.
· Serve as the site champion for all Food Safety and GMP related programs and promote them routinely with all company personnel, particularly in Manufacturing, Engineering, Shipping/Receiving, and Maintenance.
· Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of Food Safety & Quality systems and procedures.
· Perform internal audits, verification, and validation of the Food Safety & Quality Management System as required.
· Develop, deliver, and track necessary training for plant employees in all quality-related procedures, processes, and systems as needed.
· Provide Quality related data to various departments within the organization, including dimensional data and analysis to qualify and validate new and revised molds and tooling; data analysis and metrics to support the proactive reduction/elimination of quality defects and complaints; and data to assist with various continuous improvement projects.
· Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities as they relate to customer complaint investigations, long-term problem-solving, product and process quality improvements, and risk/loss reduction efforts. Serve as facilitator and power user of RCCA tools and methodologies.
· Take an appropriate role (leadership or active participant) in any crisis that arises as defined within the Quality Management System, Crisis Management Program, or any other significant quality-related problem.
· Serve as the lead contact for all customers and 3rd party audits for your respective facility.
· Create and maintain inspection instructions for all raw materials used and products produced in the facility. Provide appropriate directions and disposition for nonconforming raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
· Responsible for assuring raw materials comply with applicable specifications by following appropriate incoming materials procedures which may include receipt of CoCs/CoAs incoming inspection, etc. Responsible for filing vendor complaints/rejections as needed.
· Provide oversight and assistance with responding to customer complaints and generating RMAs.
· Maintain all necessary inspection, production, and procedure-related records.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Responsible for following all Food Safety related policies and procedures.
· Responsible for following all Human Safety rules, policies, procedures, and work instructions.
· Purchase and maintain necessary measurement and test equipment, including managing and recording required calibrations.
· Manage the Chemical Control Program by serving as the Chemical Control Officer.
· Perform quality audits as needed and coordinate the re-inspection and release of product.
· Employ and encourage the use of statistics to analyze data wherever possible.
· Assemble and publish various quality/defect data reports for required metrics and KPIs. Provide trend analyses, statistical analyses, summaries, and recommendations for corrective actions and improvement plans. Foster and participate in efforts to drive defect reductions and prevention of reoccurrence.
· Participate routinely in Manufacturing team meetings relative to communicating quality related matters and complaints.
· Manage the QA/Food Safety Technician(s) and provide training, coaching, support, and discipline as needed.
· Communicate with and visit customers and vendors as needed.
· Assist the VP of Quality in all matters pertaining to Quality and Food Safety as needed.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
· BS Degree or major in technical or related field or a Certified Quality Engineer certificate with prior manufacturing/quality experience would be ideal.
· SQF Practitioner Certified would be a plus.
· HACCP Training Certificate would also be a plus, but should have the willingness to go through the certification process.
· Working knowledge of basic food microbiology preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
3+ years’ manufacturing experience, preferably in a food or food packaging environment.
2 years’ quality assurance experience in plastic injection molding or related field, would be highly desireable.
Having working knowledge of SPC techniques, calipers, and various measurement and gaging equipment would also be desireable.
Working knowledge of statistics and continuous improvement / lean manufacturing principles is highly desireable.
Proficient at using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, et al.).
Familiarity with maintaining compliance to one or more GFSI or other relevant auditing schemes.
Practical knowledge of metrology, statistical process control, sampling plans, and test method design.
Demonstrated strength in the following skills: decision-making; verbal, written, and technical communication; critical thinking, good judgment, and problem-solving; ability to work independently as a self-starter; willingness to collaborate across departments; effective at staying organized and adjusting priorities.
Experience with supervising or leading other employees preferred.
