This is an extraordinary opportunity for an early-to-mid-career Systems Administrator with Network Operations Center (NOC) experience to enter the field of Cybersecurity as a Vulnerability Assessment Analyst.
Global Engineering and Technology (GET) is seeking qualified applicants with a Systems Administrator background (particularly within an NOC environment) for the position of Vulnerability Assessment Analyst in support of the United States Department of Energy's cybersecurity program. This is a highly compensated, high-responsibility national security position that is central to our mission's success.
In its majority, work will be performed remotely, from the employee's place of residence (average of 85% remote / 15% on-site). Pre-planned, paid travel to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, for on-site interaction, support, and training will be required as needed.
Duties:
Vulnerability Assessment Analysts perform assessments of systems and networks within the network environment or enclave and identify where those systems/networks deviate from acceptable configurations, enclave policy, or local policy. They measure the effectiveness of Defense-in-Depth (DiD) architecture against known vulnerabilities and collaborate with other teams to ensure a robust and secure information security posture.
Requirements
Security Clearance: This position requires a current DOE Q or DoD Top Secret security clearance.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities (as demonstrated by technical expertise and certification)
SMEs performing this function are expected to have the following:
Knowledge and experience working within a NIST framework environment
Knowledge of host/network access control
Knowledge of network access, identity, and access management
Knowledge of network protocols
Knowledge of how traffic flows across the network
Knowledge of Cisco routers and their function in network connectivity and management
Knowledge of VPN management, including implementing strong encryption protocols and security measures, managing user access and authentication, monitoring VPN traffic and performance, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring compliance with privacy and data protection regulations
Knowledge of Firewall design, including tasks such as configuring and updating firewall rules, monitoring network traffic and analyzing logs for potential threats, implementing intrusion prevention systems, conducting regular security audits, managing user access and authentication, and staying updated with emerging threats and vulnerabilities to ensure effective protection of the network
Knowledge of Switch management, including configuring and optimizing switch ports, implementing port security measures, monitoring switch performance and traffic patterns, managing switch firmware and software updates, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring seamless and efficient communication between network devices
Knowledge of system and application security threats and vulnerabilities
Knowledge of different classes of attacks
Ability to pursue an assigned scope of work individually, while interacting with other members of the Cybersecurity team to meet operational goals and objectives
Experience:
This position requires a minimum of 5 years of Systems Administrator experience, although academics and certifications may also be taken into account, on a case-by-case basis).
Highly sought-after skills:
Knowledge of Python for uses such as automating network device configuration and provisioning, monitoring and analyzing network traffic and performance, implementing network protocols and services, conducting network security assessments and vulnerability scans, developing network management tools and utilities, and integrating with network APIs
Knowledge of C++ for uses such as developing high-performance network applications and protocols, implementing low-level network drivers and interfaces, optimizing network performance through efficient memory management and processing, building robust and scalable network monitoring and analysis tools, and integrating with existing network infrastructure
Cisco Router Certification/s (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CCDA, CCDP, and CCAr)
