Controller

Global Animal Products (GAP) is an animal nutrition feed additive manufacturer specializing in chelated trace minerals based in Amarillo, Texas. We are a family-owned business that has been in business for 28 years. GAP manufactures and markets its products both here in the U.S. and internationally. We traditionally work internationally with distributors with the exception of Mexico where we have a company presence. Here at Global Animal Products, we consider ourselves vertically integrated, as not only do we manufacture products, but we also transport them in our own fleet of trucks (U.S.), we design and install application systems, and we maintain these GAP-owned systems at our customers' facilities.

We are looking to hire a Controller to work in our Amarillo office. This person will be a key individual in our business operations and accounting.

Role and Responsibilities

• Direct all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, payroll, GL, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition for domestic and Mexico operations
• Prepare and publish timely consolidated monthly financial statements
• Perform accurate month-end and year-end close processes in a timely manner
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
• Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements
• Oversee external tax consultants and provide timely information as needed for businesses tax filings
• Develop and enforce business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls
• Supervise external auditors and audits (financial and insurance), providing all needed information to ensure proper completion
• Coordinate and direct the preparation of a budget and financial forecasts as well as report variances

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Degree in Accounting or Finance
• 7+ years of accounting experience
• 2+ years of managerial experience in supervising people
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
• Expert knowledge of QuickBooks and working in multiple companies
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
• Highly proficient computer skills in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Self-starter, motivated and works well with a team

Preferred Skills

• Certified Public Accountant
• Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
• Extensive understanding of taxation, particularly S corporations, partnerships, individuals, and advanced tax strategies
• Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Initiative and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently
• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Can read, write, and communicate in Spanish
