Job Summary

The Retail Sales/Customer Care Associate will engage in service, selling and support in our Chicago Gathering Place. S/he will provide outstanding customer experience to our girls, parents, volunteers, staff, and the community-at-large. S/he will continuously update his/her knowledge of the organization in order to effectively determine customer needs, answer questions, and provide informed recommendations. S/he will provide support for all the Chicago offices and retail shop as well as our other shops and off-site council events.

The Retail Sales/Customer Care Associate will have the opportunity to learn about non-profit operations from the ground up. The responsibilities are varied as the new skills gained are great. It is an ideal position for those interested in starting a career in the non-profits.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • ​This position will generally work Monday through Friday - 8:30 - 5, but there are other times that will require some flexibility, including some evenings and/or weekends
  • Adapt to flexible work responsibilities based on the needs of the Gathering Place
  • Under limited supervision, will open, close, and operate the Gathering Place office, retail shop, including handling cash, making deposits, and completing paperwork and transactions
  • Provide exceptional customer experience by being attentive, knowledgeable, efficient, and courteous in communication and interaction with active and passive retail customers regarding sales, general inquiries, feedback, concerns, returns, and exchanges
  • Greet all customers (in person or on the phone) in a professional, friendly, and timely manner; direct customer inquiries in all public areas of Gathering Places and council events
  • Provide exceptional internal customer service and administrative support across all departments as needed, including processing and routing mail, data entry, equipment check out, office supply stocking, and business machine management
  • Manage the housekeeping and efficiency in the shop, stock room, supply area, and individual work space
  • Assist with inventory counts as needed
  • Be aware of council business cycle, council events, current promotional offers and sales
  • Assist in other tasks, duties, or projects as assigned by management

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or GED; college degree preferred
  • Previous retail sales or customer service experience
  • Knowledge of Counterpoint Point of Sale System and Salesforce Case Management System, a plus
  • Knowledge of PC Windows applications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Energetic and positive attitude
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and insurance
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hour) on the sales floor
  • Must be able to move and or lift up to 25 pounds
