Gillmann Services is seeking to hire a Marine Draftsperson/Technician for our Norfolk facility. The candidate will report directly to the Engineering Department and will work with the cognizant Superintendent responsible for installation and maintenance of ship's temporary services on various classes of Naval vessels (LHD, LSD, LPD, CG, and DDG). The candidate will also interact with personnel from the Facilities Dept. that are tasked with installation of temporary services onboard ship.
Document locations of various temporary ship services that are provided from the pier or drydock to the ship in support of shipboard overhaul while existing ship's systems are disabled/dormant. Temporary services are generally located throughout the ship on weather decks, main engine spaces, auxiliary machinery rooms, storerooms, berthing compartments, and passageways. These systems encompass firemain, electrical power, potable water, oxygen and burning gases, low pressure air, steam, and oily waste disposal. Special emphasis placed on temporary firefighting systems, locations of burning gas manifolds, and compressed inert gas bottle racks.
Transfer locations of temporary services to an underlay pdf (Adobe) General Arrangement of ship utilizing an existing AutoCad drawing template that accurately reflects service locations in a schematic format.
Maintain and update drawing(s) on a weekly basis or as coordinated with the cognizant Superintendent throughout each availability.
Other field work and drafting services/drawing development within the facility as may be assigned in general support of Engineering and Facilities Departments.
Ability to recognize types of ship's temporary service systems provided from the pier or drydock to the ship in support of overhauls. These systems include but are not limited to temporary firemain racks and hoses, electrical distribution boxes and cables, low pressure tool air lines and manifolds oxygen and burning gas lines and manifolds, potable water lines and manifolds, steam lines, etc.
• High school education and continuing education in community college with emphasis on drafting
skills preferably with a concentration on marine type systems.
Proficient in use of AutoCad software and Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word).
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
No physical restrictions that would prevent ability to perform shipchecks onboard vessel in support of drawing development (traversing inclined and vertical ladders, ramps, and other ship structure as required).
