*Position Description Summary:* The Department of Psychology at The George Washington University (GWU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Applied Social Psychology to begin as early as the start of the 2019-2020 academic year, pending final budgetary approval. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, studying the effects of social psychological mechanisms on health (e.g., substance use, obesity, sexual risk behaviors, physical activity); the influence of social processes such as prejudice and discrimination on health outcomes; or the relationship between diversity (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, socioeconomic status, physical ability) and health disparities and inequities. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our doctoral program, which trains students for both academic and applied positions. *Specific Duties and Responsibilities:* The selected candidate will contribute to the Department and University through research, teaching, and service. This includes: 1) developing and sustaining a highly active program of research, 2) publishing high quality peer-reviewed research, 3) pursuing external funding, 4) contributing to undergraduate and graduate teaching, 5) mentoring doctoral students, and 6) participating in service-related committee work as appropriate. We are particularly interested in offering courses on sophisticated multivariate statistical models in psychology. Examples of such methods include, but are not limited to, multi-level modeling, latent profile analysis, and other modeling approaches.


*Advertised Salary:* Competitive salary and startup funds are available commensurate with experience.


*Other Information:* The Psychology Department is situated within the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS). CCAS offers top-notch training to graduate students and offers undergraduate students an engaged liberal arts education. Faculty across the college and university have developed a vibrant interdisciplinary research community, involving psychology faculty in collaborations with faculty in public health, medicine, engineering, and other fields. The candidate would join a department with diverse faculty who study basic psychological processes as well as the application of those processes to promote health and reduce health disparities and inequalities. GWU?s location, in Washington, DC, provides unique opportunities for research collaborations with, and access to, diverse communities that will enhance scholarly endeavors aimed at improving health and reducing health disparities and inequalities.
