### Summary

**What General Information Do I Need To Know About This

Salary: $69,349 (Step 01) to $90,160 (Step 10); **NOTE: First time
hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at** **the Step
01. **

The incumbent of this position is entitled to a cost of living
allowance (COLA) of 3.27% for 2019 in addition to the salary.

### Responsibilities

**As a Geologist within the Alaska Science Center, some of your
specific duties will include:**

-Plan and conduct field investigations related to geomorphic,
neotectonic, paleoseismic, and paleotsunami investigations.

-Utilize LiDAR and satellite imagery in support of geologic and
geomorphic mapping.

-Conduct laboratory analysis of samples for luminescence,
radioisotope (?4C, ??7Cs), and cosmogenic isotopes, in support of
field studies.

-Prepare reports and presentations summarizing results of research.


Work can be physically demanding and includes walking, bending,
climbing, and lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds when in the
field, sometimes during adverse conditions.

Field work is performed in rugged, remote terrains with severe wind,
rain, cold, and snow even during summer. Lifting and carrying heavy
equipment various distances over rugged terrain is required.

Transportation to field sites may include helicopter, fixed-wing
aircraft, or watercraft. Field work is conducted in areas with wild
animals, such as black or brown bears.

**Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?**

You will be required to operate a government-owned or -leased
vehicle in the performance of your official duties. Applicants for

Taking and passing a pre-employment medical examination at Federal
expense is required due to the physical demands of this job.

Because this position requires travel for official business, the

In addition to the basic education requirement, applicants must
have the following to qualify for the GS-11 level:

One year of appropriate professional experience in geology that is
equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service.

Examples of such experience could include independent responsibility
for a well-defined study or for a phase of a larger study that
required the planning and carrying out of routine geologic work.
This work would have required the individual to select and make
minor adaptations to procedures and accepted practices and handle
unexpected conditions arising in the normal course of the work. At
this level, Geologists have a sound working knowledge of the
principles of geology and the ability to independently perform
moderately difficult and responsible scientific work.

You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the
