Summary

Under the direction of the VP of R&D Engineering, plan, initiate, and manage engineering prototype electronics and system test, verification and qualification; manage and guide the work of test and rework technicians, mechanical assemblers, and external test technicians from contract facilities. Plan test and verification stages and assess results for each stage. Monitor progress to ensure deadlines are met. Conduct a variety of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical tests on electronic systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure unit functions according to specifications or to determine the cause for unit failure to the component level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the inventory and logistics for multiple prototype system test and verification programs and support transfer of products from engineering to production.
  • Manage the status of test, verification, and qualification, and inform management of any issues or deviations.
  • Under the direction of the VP of R&D Engineering, develop and update test, verification, and qualification plans for engineering projects
  • Utilize various equipment to perform engineering tests on new product designs to assure the product meets design specifications and objectives.
  • Write and modify test procedures.
  • Debug hardware to component level
  • Provide product support to customers and vendors via verbal or digital communication and personal interaction.
  • Read test schedules, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine testing procedures and equipment to be used. 
  • Test the functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions such as temperature change and vibration using diagnostic tests.
  • Confer with project personnel to identify and resolve problems.
  • Present and explain reports, or findings to VP of R&D Engineering
  • Prepare engineering test, verification, and environmental test plans for engineering teams.
  • Perform risk assessments to develop response strategies and provide feedback to VP of R&D Engineering
  • Monitor the progress of project team members, providing and documenting progress feedback to the VP of R&D Engineering
  • Lifts and moves equipment and materials by hand.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent years of experience in Electronics Design Support
  • MUST have experience in Soldering and reworking PCB boards, IPC/EIA-J-STD-001 certification.
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting electronics to a component level including microprocessors and digital circuitry.
  • 2-5 years of successfully managing engineering projects and teams preferred.
  • Experience with full life cycle development from proof of concept through manufacturing, including digital and analog hardware design, implementation, test and documentation is required
  • Familiar with electrical engineering computer-aided design software
  • Familiar with computer software functionality such as BIOS, EEPROM, programmable devices, etc.  Basic familiarity with operating systems (Windows, DOS)
  • Experience with soldering of SMT devices (required)
  • Experience with fabricating cabling (required)
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and environmental testing (preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and scheduling software

  • Must possess the ability and desire to encourage and facilitate a positive and productive work environment for all employees.
  • Must be able to lift and move equipment and material by hand.
  • Must be able to work on-site the standard 8 AM-5 PM, Monday – Friday schedule and additional hours as necessary.
  • Limited travel is required.

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
