ESSENTIAL DUTIES Work with and take direction from Pressroom Manager and Operations Manager. Work closely with CTP Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor and Packing Manager whenever needed. Work with press and other Gazette personnel to ensure equipment used in production of products is properly maintained and standardized (SOP's) procedures are followed. Supervise and work closely with press teams. Senior Lead Press Operators are to assist press crew in all aspects of operations. Contact Operations Management when press or other problems occur. Set up press and folder for production runs. Train new hires in press and reelroom operations. Complete all production reports associated with each print job. This includes completing the NYT website. Ability to create and read a press layout. Make ready press and run productively. Must be able to control and maintain printed and white waste. Must be able to use and calibrate an X-Rite densitometer. Maintain press supplies and keep an on-going inventory, Pressroom Manager will order the supplies. It is the Senior Lead Press Operator responsibility to communicate in writing what supplies are needed. Ability to perform general press maintenance; ink roller adjustments and replacement as needed, replacing blankets and other duties assigned by supervisors. Attendance is mandatory during training and staff meetings. House keeping is required around the press and reel area. Cleaning the general press area of the press is required after each press run. It is the Lead Operators responsibility to see that this is preformed during each shift.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Knowledge and experience with web printing equipment. Experience to identify, troubleshoot and remedy problems pertaining to press, print quality, and waste. Effective communication skills. Written and verbal communication skills are essential to this role. Ability to make good decisions in a fast paced production environment. Must be able to work flexible hours and shifts.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or related work experience.
