ABOUT PARK BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND VISIT GALVESTON

In 1963, the citizens of Galveston voted to create a specialized unit of government called the Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston. The organization is responsible for overseeing Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB) and Coastal Zone Management (CZM). The Park Board is funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) and beach user fees for the six parks that they manage. Tourism pays for tourism as no sales or property tax is collected by the Park Board. The nine-member board is comprised of volunteer residents with diverse business backgrounds. Each is required to serve at least two years and must also serve on one of the Park Board's advisory committees.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CHIEF TOURISM OFFICER / MARKETING AND SALES EXECUTIVE

As a Chief Tourism Officer / Marketing and Sales Executive, you oversee the strategic planning for and day-to-day operations of our destination marketing organization and report directly to our CEO. The importance of your contributions cannot be understated: you are entrusted with implementing the policies, core values, and mission of Visit Galveston by ensuring sound financial practices, managing our strategic plan, and facilitating a healthy and productive work environment. Organized and detail-oriented, you prepare relevant agendas, budgets, and reports to keep our efforts on track.

You provide guidance to department directors and staff, including marketing, communications, sales, public relations, and destination services. As an engaged leader, you work closely with department leaders and staff to ensure they achieve their goals. Accessible and supportive, you assist with the development of marketing strategies and oversee the incentive program for our sales team. Driven to help others succeed, you happily provide coaching and professional development opportunities for leaders and staff members alike.

Outside of the office, you proudly represent our organization at tradeshows, committee meetings, and statewide conventions. Outgoing and personable, you establish positive working relationships with stakeholders and local professionals in the hospitality industry. You proactively maintain membership in pertinent trade organizations and act as a community advocate to promote tourism and hospitality in the area. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CHIEF TOURISM OFFICER / MARKETING AND SALES EXECUTIVE

• 8+ years of sales or marketing experience in the hospitality industry
• 5+ years of sales or marketing experience at a management level
• Strong communications and public relations skills
• Experience developing destination experiences for visitors and residents
• Professional certification in the tourism or hospitality field such as Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), Certified Destination Management Professional (CDME), or Certified Tourism Executive (CTE)
• Experience working with government, community, and industry leaders
• Ability to create budgets and marketing plans
• Experience with planning successful internet and social media marketing campaigns
• Proficiency with standard office equipment, including fax machines and laptops
• Valid Class C driver's license
• Willingness to receive training to become a Certified Tourism Ambassador

A bachelor's degree in marketing, business management, or a related field is preferred. Experience with economic business development would be an asset. WORK SCHEDULE FOR A CHIEF TOURISM OFFICER / MARKETING AND SALES EXECUTIVE

This position typically works Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. Occasional early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required depending on operational needs and deadlines. This job requires some travel both within and outside of the Galveston area.
