Job Description


The Engineering Manager is under the general direction of the General Manager. The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and supervising a team of engineers as they develop and create solutions to technical problems.


Engineering Manager duties are the following:
  • Supervise and lead engineers and technicians who design and build machinery and tooling.
  • Direct, coordinate, or oversee Engineering and Maintenance activities with production, quality and assurance, and maintenance.
  • Supervise the Maintenance Department and their activities.
  • Supervise the personnel performing IT responsibilities.
  • Oversee the research and development of new products, procedures, and operations.
  • Hire, train, and mentor other engineers and supporting staff.
  • Write performance reviews and solve internal issues.
  • Discuss and lay out project specifications.
  • Make detailed plans to accomplish goals.
  • Review, approve, and modify product design.
  • Develop cost estimates for new projects and product designs.
  • Negotiate and research contract work and bids.
  • Improve manufacturing processes.
  • Confer with higher levels of management.

The above description covers the most significant duties performed but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned.


The Engineering Manager directly supervises the following positions: Engineers, Tooling Designers, Die Shop Leads, Maintenance Supervisors and co-ops. He or she is involved in the hiring, coaching, promoting, orienting, counseling, training, budgeting, disciplining, scheduling, directing, terminating, developing, and measuring performance of those employees. The Engineering Manager directly interacts with the all areas and functions of employees and customers as needs arise.



The educational requirement for this position is a Bachelor of Science in engineering degree. The Engineering Manager must possess a minimum of 4 years of relevant manufacturing and engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have significant management and supervisory experience whereby cost, schedule and performance commitments have been achieved. Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing improvement processes and projects. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and knowledge and proficiency of AutoCAD is required.
