Job Description

Job Responsibilities

As a member of the Animal Resources group in an AAALAC-accredited, GLP-compliant facility, the incumbent will be responsible for daily care and husbandry of the rodent populations. The duties include, but are not limited to the following: observing animal conditions and behavior, performing daily checks for temperature, humidity, food, and water, maintaining sanitary conditions (i.e scrub and mop animal room floors), changing cages, working in the cage wash area, inventory supply stock, preparing cages and cage racks, removing trash for incineration, collecting wastes for autoclaving and disposal, receiving new animals, recording animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols, ordering animals, updating and maintaining animal records, collecting, packaging, and sending out serology tissues for animal health monitoring, mixing test diet, filling jars with feed incorporated with test substance, and assisting with animal restraint and tattooing. The person will be performing related responsibilities and assisting other departments as required.


Qualifications

At least two years of animal care and handling in a laboratory or similar environment required. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team environment. Must have ability to work flexible work schedules to meet workload demands. Must have good communication and prioritization skills. Ability to Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's, quality assurance and facility safety standards pertaining to specific area.
