SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.

SUMMARY
Provides individualized coaching and/mentoring to Teacher/Caregivers, Assistant Teacher/Caregivers and Family Development Specialists. Uses proven effective strategies to increase staff's ability to support positive school readiness outcomes for children ages zero to three, in both center based and home visitation program options. Responsible for providing technical assistance using assessment tools, computer-based applications, cooperative learning techniques such as Learning Communities and visual aids, as necessary.

Assist in the fulfillment of the agency's vision, "For Those We Serve," by empowering individuals to thrive as healthy, self-sufficient and contributing members of our communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and implement Practice Based Coaching strategies using the Teachers Learning and Collaborating (TLC), Learning Communities structure with Early Head Start teaching staff and home visitors.

Conduct pre-assessments to identify staff strengths and challenges with relevant research-based instruments such as the Home Visitation Rating Scale (HOVRS) and the Teaching Pyramid Infant/Toddler Observation (TPITOS).

Coach and mentor assigned Teacher/Caregivers, Assistant Teacher/Caregivers and home visitors by utilizing research-based effective teaching strategies based on the individualized needs of each staff member.

Improve staff's ability to foster school readiness and/brain development in children zero to three years, as documented by improved school readiness outcomes.

Prepare content and lead presentations at Teachers Learning and Collaborating (TLC) meetings.

Provide materials and direction for facilitation of TLC bi-monthly Learning Communities.

Observe and video staff in classroom and home visitation settings, implementing identified teaching strategies to enhance staff's teaching skills and techniques.

Establish and maintain consistent and regular coaching schedules for staff.

Propose innovative teaching approaches and goals to assist staff in the implementation of Professional Development Plans.

Conduct post-assessments to measure improvements in staff strengths and challenges with relevant research based instruments, such as, the Home Visitation Rating Scale (HOVERS) and the Teaching Pyramid Infant/Toddler Observation (TPITOS).

Analyze and interpret various forms of data.

Develop and modify coaching curriculum as necessary.

Maintain professionalism and a team structure; serve as a role model for staff, children and parents. Attend all service training as provided.

Perform all program responsibilities within the parameters of the Early Head Start Performance Standards mandates, and Community Care Licensing regulations.

Travels for agency business using personal/agency vehicle.

Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

Works evenings and weekends as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or a related degree and coursework equivalent to major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development required. Three units of infant/toddler course work required.

EXPERIENCE:
5 years' experience in a child development program (0 to 3 preferred) working directly with children families and staff required.

Must have ability to use technology in an instructional environment and be able to successfully implement technology in presentations.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Acquire and maintain trainer of trainers' certification in Teachers Learning and Collaborating (TLC) techniques.

Acquire and maintain trainer of trainers' certification for Center for Social Emotional Foundations of Early Learning (CSEFEL) Pyramid.

Work effectively with multi-cultural/diverse groups, have the ability to establish a positive relationship with staff, families and children.

Knowledge of different teaching methods and styles, and have the ability to provide specialized and individualized instruction.

Advanced skills in effective communication, both verbal and written.

Knowledge of principles of coaching/mentoring; experience preferred.

Knowledge of principles of child abuse reporting.

Maintain a valid California driver's license, reliable transportation and adequate auto insurance as required by State law. Proof of insurance will be required.

Infant/Child CPR/First Aid certification with at least 15 hours of training on preventive health practices required within 6 months of employment.

Fingerprint clearance under Title 22 regulations required prior to first day of employment.

Physical examination, TB screening clearance and signed federal criminal record declaration are required within 7 days after employment.

Mandated Child Abuse Reporting Certification must be completed prior to first day of work.

Former EHS/Head Start parents preferred.

Employment in Early Head Start is contingent upon approval of the County-Wide Policy Council.

Immunized against influenza (flu), pertussis (whooping cough) and measles. The influenza vaccination must be obtained annually during flu season, August 1 through December 1. A person is exempt from the immunization requirements for the following circumstances:

1. The Person submits a written statement from a licensed physician declaring that because of the person's physical condition or medical circumstances, the immunization is not safe.
2. The person submits a written statement from a licensed physician providing that the person has evidence of current immunity to pertussis (whopping cough) and /or measles.
3. The person submits in writing declaration that she or she has declined the influenza (flu) vaccination. This exemption only applies to the influenza (flu) vaccine.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While preforming the duties of this job, the frequency of activity is listed below:
The following activities are frequently (3 to 6 hours) performed: Sitting, walking standing, bending (neck), bending (waist), squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, twisting (neck), twisting (waist), simple grasping, fine manipulation, pushing & pulling, reaching (above shoulder level), reaching (below shoulder level).

The following activities are frequently (3 to 6 hours) performed:
Lifting/carrying 0 - 10 lbs. within worksite to a height no greater than 6 feet.
Lifting/carrying 11 - 25 lbs. within worksite/from car to worksite to a height no higher than 6 feet.

The following activities are occasionally (up to 3 hours) performed:
Lifting/carrying 26 - 50 lbs. within the worksite/from car to worksite to a height no greater than 6 feet.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to the following:
Driving cars - meetings, training sites, home visits, socializations, etc.
Walking on uneven ground - stairs, parking lots, playgrounds, etc.
Exposure to outside weather conditions - frequently.
Nosie level in the work environment is usually moderate.
