Position Overview
The Project Engineer is responsible for development and improvement in manufacturing processes.
- Essential Functions
- Gathers information to evaluate current work processes in order to determine the flow of work, time requirements, costs, and duration
- Develops strategies and programs that improve the productivity and efficiency of the various work processes of the company
- Applies various industrial engineering problem solving and productivity techniques to evaluate the improvement of and recommend strategies and programs
- Develops project plans, coordinates projects, communicates changes/progress, completes projects on time/in budget
- Instructs others in continuous process improvements
- Develops programs to incorporate employee suggestions and actions related to process improvement
- Facilitates employee teams to build cohesiveness and improve the overall results of the respective teams’ tasks
- Implements creative ideas in the process of manufacturing and understanding the technicalities related to the products
- Improves the manufacturing process by implementing engineering concepts and optimizing the production of the products
- Configures the products and provides product specifications to the teams involved in documentation to help prepare guides and manuals
- Evaluates and identifies equipment required for the manufacturing process aligned with necessary and required safety protocols
- Works with equipment vendors and facilities modifications to install new equipment that meet expectations of throughput, quality, and employee safety
- Works closely with production team to help them understand the technical concepts that should be looked after during the manufacturing process of the products
- Works closely with the quality assurance team to ensure products meet quality goals
- Responsible for maintaining a food safe work environment and in the event it is perceived that it is compromised, action is to be taken which includes stopping the process and notifying the production supervisor, assistant supervisor, or lead on duty
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Skills & Knowledge
- Engineering Degree (mechanical, chemical, process, industrial, etc.)
- Demonstrable proficiency in CAD software is needed
- Three plus years of related work experience
- Experience in food processing a plus
- Ability to generate creative solutions
- Ability to use modern technology in the manufacturing process
- Exceptional communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks in order to meet expected goals with stated timeframes
- Strong leadership and ability to make critical decisions and utilize cost effective methods in manufacturing processes
- Ability to translate concepts and information into images and use feedback to modify designs
- High level of detail orientation
- Ability to work in a hands on environment
- Strong project management skills
- Demonstrated strong project management skills
- Ability to present and explain projects to executive team
- Ability to create and manage full project budgets
Work Environment
- Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Able to work in both hot/warm conditions
- Comfortable with a moderate noise level
- Able to work in an environment with peanuts and tree nuts
