Senior Staff Accountant

Job Description

A multi-specialty healthcare provider with full Medicare and Joint Commission accreditation has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant reporting to the Company's Controller. This position will be responsible principally for maintaining the accounts and records of numerous affiliated companies and the timely generation of monthly financial statements and reports while understanding and ensuring compliance with the Company's financial policies and internal accounting controls.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process general journal entries by maintaining records and files for multiple companies

  • Prepare financial analyses, reports, and presentations on a monthly basis and schedule

  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and perform variance analyses as required

  • Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), industry accounting pronouncements, and Company procedures

  • Maintain and provide suggestions for improvement to Company accounting policies and procedures

  • Assist with year-end financial audit support as well as healthcare industry statutory audits and reporting

  • Coordinate accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the Accounting Department or with other Company departments.

    Primary Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university and minimum five years related experience in healthcare accounting. In addition:

  • Ability to meet a constant stream of deadlines

  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees

  • Highly detail-oriented and organized

  • Superior analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Proactively demonstrate a willingness to learn and perform complex skills and projects on a continual basis

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

  • Experience using MS Dynamics Great Plains accounting software

  • Experience using Evident ERP system.

    Planning: Prioritize and plan work activities in an organized manner; and, set goals and objectives then achieve them with consistency.

    Technical: Assess own strengths and weaknesses; pursue training and development opportunities; and, strive to continuously build personal knowledge and skill sets.

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, the individual must have strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, and internet navigation and research. Experience using the Evident ERP system is preferred but demonstrated knowledge of similar ERP systems is acceptable.

    Certificates and Licenses

    None required, but the following preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant

  • Certified Management Accountant.

    Supervisory Requirements

    The position is an individual contributor; however, experience training/mentoring employees, assigning work, and reviewing work for accuracy and completeness is a plus.

           Work Environment

  • Standard indoor office working environment with no travel required

  • Long periods of sitting at a desk while working at a desktop computer

  • Required to talk and hear in addition to using hands to fingers to operate computer keyboards and process paperwork

  • Position requires regular professional interaction with employees at all levels of the Company and periodic interface with external Company relations

  • Monday through Friday, daily, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with one hour lunch break during non-month-end closing process

  • Monday through Friday, daily 8:00 a.m. past 5:00 p.m. with one hour lunch break and occasional Saturdays and Sundays as required to meet commitments and deadlines during month-end closing process
