About Food Bank of the Rockies

Founded in 1978, Food Bank of the Rockies was originally known as the Colorado Food Clearing House. Operating from a 900-square-foot schoolroom in northwest Denver, the fledgling organization collected bread from a nearby Safeway store, our first food donor, and distributed it to Little Sisters of the Poor, our first partner agency. Today, Food Bank of the Rockies has extended its reach across northern Colorado, providing food and supplies to more than 800 hunger-relief programs.

Since 1978, Food Bank of the Rockies has provided more than 700 million meals for people in need. So far in 2021, through our direct service programs and partners, we have distributed over 66 million pounds of food, the equivalent of nearly 54 million meals annually or 226,000 meals every day to children, seniors and families in need. Food Bank of the Rockies is a member of Feeding America and of Feeding Colorado, a consortium of the five food banks operating in Colorado.

Food Bank of the Rockies has a staff of 180 employees at distribution centers in Denver, Wyoming and the Western Slope.

About Wyoming Location

Food Bank of Wyoming provides food and necessities to people in need through signature programs and by teaming up with over 160 Hunger Relief Partners to serve communities across the state. The Food Sourcing Manager is responsible for handling locally purchased and donated food by working with grocery retail locations, distribution centers, and other donation sources. This role will also develop local purchasing relationships with farmers and ranchers by working with food systems within Wyoming to ensure food access to Hunger Relief Partners.

The primary focus will be on the Grocery Rescue Program for the Food Bank of Wyoming, impacting one of our largest food streams. This includes maintaining relationships with retail partners at the store and corporate levels and collaborating with Feeding America. In addition, this role involves supporting agency partnerships in relation to the Grocery Rescue Program and taking responsibility for the reporting, onboarding, assessment of participation, and coverage of assigned stores and support for MealConnect.

The Food Sourcing Manager will also establish local purchasing relationships with farmers and ranchers emphasizing local, fresh, and healthy products (produce, dairy, and protein) along with highlighting specialty foods within those categories (culturally relevant foods and holiday foods).

This will involve planning, goal-setting, strategy development, implementation, and partnership building with a range of commercial and government entities. This role will build local relationships with a wide range of donors and suppliers and work to provide broad variety, high quality, and best price.

Essentials Functions:

Grocery Rescue:

  • Represent Food Bank of Wyoming with the Feeding America Retail Sourcing team
  • Work with Food Bank of Wyoming staff and volunteers to ensure food safety and donation policies are followed
  • Provide accurate reports as requested by our retail partners
  • Maintain web-based donation reporting system of assigned agencies and retail locations (MealConnect)
  • Analyze program reports to support growth and build retail partnerships
  • Conduct store and agency visits to resolve issues and improve performance
  • Facilitate the complex relationships between partner agencies and retail donors
  • Ensure annual partner and program agreement compliance
  • Ensure accurate poundage reporting and tracking
  • Prepare quarterly newsletters and annual reporting for retail partners
  • Provide Grocery Rescue training for retailers and partner agencies
  • Promote the Grocery Rescue program and other Food Bank of Wyoming programs to partners and the community
  • Work with the Food Bank of the Rockies Food Sourcing Director and Sourcing team on program improvements and account management

Food Systems and Local Purchasing:

  • Conduct face-to-face visits, meetings, and presentations with prospective suppliers, including but not limited to farmers, ranchers, processors, and distributors/food hubs, and solicit donation and purchase offers with a wide range of local suppliers.
  • Develop a yearly work plan for food acquisition based on strategic planning; using demand forecasting, partner feedback on product selection, and calendar planning of special projects
  • Attend food industry events including trade shows, association meetings, and network conferences
  • Work with drivers and warehouse staff to ensure products are ready for pickups and following purchasing and donation guidelines/policies
  • Analyze data or insights to determine industry trends
  • Work with the Director of Operations and Food Bank of the Rockies Food Sourcing Director on category growth and budget development
  • Maintain all necessary department files and records
  • Ensure that established policies and procedures are understood and adhered to by all
  • Strive to obtain inventory and turn goals, while maintaining service level and minimizing waste
  • Collaborate with Food Bank of the Rockies Sourcing and Food Bank of Wyoming Receiving Teams to ensure product specifications are met and in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory and company requirements
  • Leadership role in authoring grants and progress reports associated with food sourcing or local purchasing
  • Strategy development and implementation to ensure reliable food supply to meet the meal gap in Wyoming
  • Serve as project leader and liaison to local and state partner organizations for food sourcing
  • Lead efforts to increase local food supply and food system capacity
  • Manage costs and timelines for projects, completing projects on time and within budget

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior experience with food sourcing, food distribution, food safety, and food systems work required
  • Sales experience including product portfolio management and negotiating experience preferred
  • Strong presentation skills and comfort with public speaking
  • A clear focus on excellent customer service
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language fluently, and communicate verbally and in writing at a professional level
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
  • ServSafe certification within 3 months of assuming the role.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation as travel will be required. Company vehicle for extensive travel available.

Expected Hours of Work:

This role is considered full-time, working approximately 40 hours per week. Requires 30-40% travel with overnights primarily within the states of Wyoming and Colorado.


Salary: $55k - $57k based on experience; eligible for up 6% bonus based on our Annual Incentive Plan
