The Programs Warehouse Associate helps receive and distribute all child nutrition and commodity programs administered by the Food Bank. These initiatives include Weekend Power Pack, Kids Cafe, Kids Summer Meals, School Pantry Program, Health Care pantries, CACFP At-risk Afterschool Program and CSFP.  This position will work closely with Inventory Associates, Shopping Product Coordinators and Operations Managers at all branches to transfer product while maintaining inventory control, filling orders, temperature logs and all other aspects of the warehousing inventory processing and safe handling procedures. This position will also interact with Program agencies who are picking up food and nonfood essentials and understand the processes surrounding safe distribution.


  • Thoroughly understand the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (Food Bank), its mission and policies, culture, values, history, key stakeholders, programs and finances.
  • Display a high level of customer service at all times with internal and external contacts, including but not limited to staff, partners, donors, volunteers, and the general public to support and promote the Food Bank Mission.
  • Represent the Food Bank as an ambassador for the organization in a friendly and professional manner and contribute to building and maintaining teamwork at the branch and throughout the organization.
  • Be engaged in the process of food safety and be up to date and trained on all internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Feeding America best practices, and food safety SOPs applicable to this position; uphold and maintain appropriate aspects of food safety and handling and be "audit ready" at all times; successfully take and complete all food safety training applicable to this position.

  • Ensure proper implementation of procedures related to receipt of incoming product and distribution of outgoing product.
  • Ensure accurate and clearly legible recording on all inspection forms and reporting of data.
  • Ensure accurate receiving and recording of all donor receipts and distribution records, to include product description weight and case count.
  • Implement First In-First Out rule regarding product in the dry warehouse and in the freezer/cooler.
  • Effectively disburse product into appropriate locations within the warehouse.
  • Work effectively with other warehouse team members on priorities for shipping, receiving and disbursement of product, including keeping the shopping cooler/freezer/refrigerator areas full for agency shoppers.
  • Take responsibility as warehouse staff member to maintain and upkeep appropriate appearance, cleanliness and order of the warehouse, and surrounding outside areas.
  • Execute safe forklift and other warehouse equipment handling procedures.
  • Conduct weekly cycle counts, reconcile differences with the relevant operational staff, and inform Warehouse Manager.
  • Ensure “out-by” code dates are monitored and recorded accurately. Inform relevant staff of short-coded product to enable safe distribution.
  • Ensure that all pallets are tagged, including receiving date and “out-by” date.
  • Proactively inspect perishable product to ensure quality control and inform relevant staff of product integrity.
  • Maintain all dry, refrigerated and frozen storage capacity in compliance with applicable Feeding America and food safety regulations.
  • Provide excellent customer service when working on the shopping line.
  • Serve partner agencies regarding invoicing of product, product availability and location, shared maintenance fees, weekly specials and any other information deemed helpful and informative.
  • Ensure all agencies are invoiced before leaving and treated equitably and with respect as hunger relief partners.
  • When working on the shopping line, maintain accuracy of invoice details (pricing, codes, agency ID’s etc.).
  • Maintain appearance of shopping area. Post limits and other pertinent information.
  • Assist relevant operational staff in replenishment of shopping line (including frozen, refrigerated and cooler areas).
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Warehouse Manager and Warehouse Coordinator.

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the listed qualifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with employees and volunteers in the warehouse is required. At least two years of relevant warehouse experience.
  • Demonstration of physical ability in lifting stretching, bending, and turning.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass forklift and material lift equipment certification tests.
  • Must be able to pass basic math test and food safety training.
  • Must be able to work in a very cold or very hot and physically demanding environment.
  • Must believe in the mission of the organization.
  • Must hold a valid Class C Driver’s license and be able to operate a Food Bank vehicle.

The employee is also occasionally required to:

  • Stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • General warehouse environments, including refrigerator, produce cooler, and freezer. Some protective clothing will be provided and must be worn for this work.
  • While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is required to work in a warehouse setting.
  • The employee will be required to interact with Food Bank personnel in the warehouse(s).
  • The employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • The warehouse can be extremely cold at times and extremely hot during the summer months, with temperatures ranging from -10 degrees Fahrenheit to 42 degrees Fahrenheit.
