Flow Kana is looking for a Retail Business Development Manager, who will be responsible for developing relationships and closing deals with pre-operational retailers in the application and licensing phase, retail holding groups, MSOs, investors and other strategic partners that are focusing resources on retail roll-ups and acquisitions in CA in order to secure long-term shelf space for brands within the Flow Kana ecosystem. This position will report to the Co-founder and VP of Business Development.

What you'll do

  • Develop relationships with licensed, pre-operational retailers (and strategically valuable applicants) to secure shelf space prior to opening
  • Develop and manage executive relationships with MSOs, investors and other strategic partners that are focusing resources on retail roll-ups and acquisitions in CA that present opportunities to secure shelf space
  • Develop and manage a system to uncover and track retail license application and approvals in localities throughout the state of CA
  • Develop and manage a system to track and visualize underlying stakeholder and ownership connections between and across the California retail landscape as they are revealed in order to uncover relevant underlying connections and leverage points
  • Develop referral relationships with industry consulting and advisory firms that work with retail license applicants in order to secure long term shelf space within pre-operational standalone retailers and retail groups
  • Work with the VP of Business Development to build standardized as well as customized deal structures and presentations to secure long term shelf space within pre-operational standalone retailers and retail groups
  • Partner with VP of Distribution/Sales to maintain alignment on retail priorities, shelf space lease budgets
  • Support the sales team in structuring, budgeting and negotiating shelf space negotiations
  • Partner with sales and marketing leaders to coordinate co-marketing initiatives, POP buildouts and shelf space installs with strategic retail partners and/or during the retailer buildout/ownership transition process.
  • 30-50% travel across the state w/ some occasional travel around the U.S. as needed

What you'll need

  • BS/BA strongly preferred, MBA is a plus
  • 4+ years of experience working in the cannabis industry - California market preferred
  • Proven business development and/or sales experience in a scaling startup
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced cross-functional environment with little oversight
  • Rolodex of cannabis industry contacts at the Director-level and above will be a big plus
  • Expert use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite
  • Strong analytical skills mixed with a solid creative instinct
  • Strong project management skills and a desire to create and implement processes
  • Aptitude for creative deal structuring
  • Outstanding communication skills – both oral and written
  • Strong research skills
  • Ability to travel throughout CA, and occasionally beyond, up to 50% of the time
