The Position:

Position General Summary:

Student Mental Health and Safety Administrator supports the district schools in the supervision and oversight of FDOE requirements for student mental health, well-being and safety.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Oversee, develop, and complete required reporting of implementation plans for legislatively mandated district requirements as they relate to student mental health, well-being, and safety
  • Oversee the use, distribution, and monitoring of any funds received by the district related to student mental health, well-being, and safety
  • Develop, oversee and deliver, legislatively mandated professional development and trainings to FLVS staff, as well as trainings deemed necessary according to annually delivered needs assessment
  • Develop and maintain SOPs related to student mental health and safety
  • Ensure accuracy and maintenance of FLVS student/parent handbooks, faculty handbooks, student progression plan content as it relates to student mental health and safety
  • Deliver legislatively mandated instruction to students as it relates to student mental health and safety
  • Monitor and track mental health referrals, screenings, assessments to maintain reports as required for FDOE reporting
  • Attend and participate in FDOE monthly Student Service conference calls, and provide pertinent information from calls to appropriate district and school staff
  • Complete and submit FSSAT (Florida Safe Schools Assessment Tool) and School Security Risk Assessment, annually as required by FDOE
  • Complete annual Needs Assessment of district employees as it relates to school safety
  • Participate in and support school Threat Assessment Teams, as well as ensure schools are reporting incidents utilizing the FSSP (Florida Safe Schools Portal)
  • Oversee, develop, and complete necessary trainings for school staff on school safety requirements
  • Ensure completion of Active Assailant response plan and annual training of FLVS staff
  • Complete and submit Annual School Safety Survey as required by FDOE
  • Act as the liaison between FDOE and District to provide necessary information as is provided by the FDOE
  • Attend and participate in FDOE Office of Safe Schools meetings and/or trainings, and provide pertinent information from calls to appropriate district and school staff
  • Report and communicate with Superintendent and School Board as necessary as is required by legislation
  • Maintain school safety specialist certification
  • Supervise and oversee School Psychologists and Social Worker
  • Manage, control, direct, and supervise assigned direct reports, including general leadership, planning, organizing, and reviewing
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others
  • All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established

Minimum Requirements:


  • Master’s Degree or higher in Behavioral Health Sciences
  • Valid license by the State of Florida under Chapter 490/491, Florida Statutes, in one of the following disciplines: School Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Clinical Psychology - Preferred.
  • Certified in one of the following: School Counseling, School Psychology, or Social Worker


  • At least five years of experience in student mental health and safety
  • Knowledge and understanding of SB 7030 - Implementation of Legislative Recommendations of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission
