Overview: The Lead Cellar oversees all aspects of the barrel cellar, barrel aging, and centrifuging. This is a multi-functional role that blends cellar work, QA/QC, material sourcing, and marketing responsibilities into a single self-guided position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Transferring of beer via hard and soft piping to finishing vessels • Cleaning and maintaining fermentation and finishing vessels to standard operating procedure (SOP) • Clarifying of beer via centrifuge or other clarifying agent according to SOP • Record keeping of transfer yields, treatments, or other procedures • Assist cellar operator in ensuring cellar daily tasks are met • Assist cellar operator with setting up training tasks and ensuring training goals are met • Perform lab testing on beer such as testing gravities, yeast cell counts, and yeast viability assessments • Daily monitoring of fermentations • Application of treatments such as dry hops, wood, or other additives according to SOP • Troubleshoot equipment and quality issues with team • Monitor and correct the carbonation of beer prior to packaging • Operate cellar equipment such as pumps, centrifuge, and bulldogs • Assemble and break down appropriate hose and part configuration depending on process • Adjust fermentation vessel temperatures in accordance to standard operating procedures • Communicate well with team • Cleaning and maintaining cellar equipment such as centrifuge and carbonation stones • Work with Head Brewer and Packaging Manager to schedule production to ensure proper aging time for all projects to coincide with release date goals Experience and Skills: • Minimum of 2 years of professional brewing, lab, and/or cellar experience • Ability to multitask and adjust to changing priorities • Ability to work varied shifts • Proper use of PPE • Mechanical aptitude • Attention to detail • Open availability including nights, weekends, and holidays Education and Certification: • Bachelor’s degree in a science field of study or equivalent laboratory/brewery and/or process experience (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cereal Science, Microbiology, Food Science, Agronomy, and Chemical Engineering) preferred • Advanced degree or higher in ancillary field or trade education is preferred • Cicerone Certified Beer Server preferred • Forklift certification preferred Physical Demands: • Must be able to lift 50lbs to shoulder height and push or pull 160lbs • Must be able to work on your feet for 10 hours • Must be able to crouch, bend, lift and reach • Must be able to work in hot, wet, and loud environment • Must be able to work with and around steam, electricity, harsh chemicals, and solvents • Continual moving, lifting, and manipulation of hoses, buckets, pumps, and other parts that require extended standing, lifting, crouching, and walking throughout shift Salary and Benefits: • Rate of pay commensurate with experience • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance • 401k with Company Match • Short-term disability and long-term disability • Life Insurance • Company Holidays • Paid Time Off • Free Draft Beer Job Snapshot • Employment Type: Full-Time • Job Type: Exempt • Pay Type: Salary • Supervisor: VP of Production Equal Opportunity: We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and do not discriminate any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, sex age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a veteran, and basis of disability or any other federal, state or local protected class.
