The Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work and the Brain Institute of Florida Atlantic University are seeking an exceptional and visionary leader to be the Director of Substance Use Disorders and Recovery Research Center with the Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work. The position seeks a candidate with demonstrated academic research and scholarship in substance abuse mechanisms and treatments, at the level of Associate or Full Professor, tenure-track with a start date of July, 2020.
The Director will formulate an overall scientific agenda for the development and clinical evaluation of a variety of addiction prevention and behavioral interventions, recommend resource allocation across competing initiatives, and continually assess and reorient program priorities and activities, both anticipating and responding to changing research needs or redefined policies. The Director will also serve as a key advisor to multi-disciplinary research teams to ensure that the research agenda is integrated and complementary with internal and external partners and coordinated with the educational programs of the Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work and the Brain Institute. At each step in the process, the Director will operate from a unique perspective that requires conveying scientific expertise and knowledge of the activities of educators, scientists and clinicians with a wide variety of backgrounds. The Director will have research experiences as a principal investigator and demonstrated solid record of external funding, substantial active federal grant funding in areas of human neurobiology and addiction, and scholarly publications. Minimal teaching is required.
PhD. from an accredited institution in either Social Work, Psychology, or closely related field required.
Existing external funding in areas of interpersonal neuroscience and/or mental health in the addictions.
Relevant teaching experience at the college level preferred.
