JOB TITLE: Production Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Production

FLSA: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager

REVISED: 11/15/18


Objective: Responsible for the safe, efficient manufacturing and converting production by your team. Meet business objectives. Manage all activities of your assigned crew.

Essential Functions

A) Supervise, coordinate and manage all aspects of production and converting operations on assigned shift. Partner other supervisors and Managers to efficiently schedule and produce manufacturing and converting materials.

B) Partner with the Production Manager and other departments to utilize raw materials for maximum efficiency, minimum waste and minimum expense.

C) Supervise all production and converting personnel on assigned shift, including assigning duties, scheduling, setting expectations, providing feedback and holding employees accountable. This requires constant, effective communication.

D) Adhere to and insure compliance with all policies, rules, regulations and laws, including but not limited to: safety, wage and hour, employment, discrimination, harassment and retaliation

E) Insure compliance with all safety and hazardous materials handling procedures. Insure work areas are constantly maintained in an hazard-free, safe manner

F) Insure compliance with all rules and regulations, including but not limited to: workplace safety, health and environmental, and all other State, Federal or other legal requirements

G) Conduct daily pre-shift safety inspections and meetings

H) Accurately complete and maintain the following documents, including but not limited to: daily shift report, time & attendance, production reports

I) Partner with Production leadership to schedule production/converting, and to coordinate incoming and outgoing materials.

J) Treat all employees fairly, consistently and with respect

K) Set clear performance, safety, attendance and behavior expectations and hold employees accountable through constant feedback.

L) Discipline employees when appropriate, following company policy and practice.

M) Perform frequent inspections to insure Company standards, rules and laws are being followed regarding: safety, quality, productivity, efficiency.

N) Requires the ability to stand and walk for a minimum 8-hour shift; work on-site, overtime, swing or night shift and weekends

O) Requires the ability to constantly lift, carry, push and pull 30 pounds

Other Duties

A) Assist in the recruitment, on-boarding and training of employees assigned to your team

B) Lead monthly physical inventory

C) Partner with others to resolve issues, improve plant safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness

D) Drive a forklift to assist with production as needed

E) Occasionally may be required to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds

F) Be flexible responding to changing customer and production scheduling needs.

G) Partner with Plant Manager and other plant leaders to develop short- and long-term goals for the facility, as well as new product/process development and implementation.

H) Serve as a resource and leader in the implementation of new programs and procedures and process improvements

I) Assist the Plant Manager in the development and maintenance of department budgets

J) At all times behave in a professional and courteous manner. Be a role model in the facility

K) Other duties as assigned

L) Participate in special projects as required

Reporting Relationship

A) Reports to the Plant Manager

B) Works closely with production, shipping and maintenance supervisors and office staff

Minimum Qualifications

A) 3-5 years experience working in a manufacturing environment

B) 2+ years’ experience as lead person or supervisor

C) Bilingual English-Spanish

D) High School Diploma or equivalent

E) Maintain Red Cross certification in Safety and CPR

F) Develop knowledge of products manufactured and sold, paper grades and quality, and converting operations

G) Excellent logical decision-making ability

H) Excellent verbal and written communication skills

I) Ability to partner with and lead employees at all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications

A) Prior experience in paper manufacturing

B) BA or BS in relevant field of study

Physical Environment/Working Conditions

This position is in a manufacturing location, where temperature fluctuations occur throughout the year. Employees must use eye and hearing protection and exercise caution around machinery, equipment and forklifts.
