Job Description

First Step Communities is a Sacramento non-profit with the mission to create interim housing and emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness. First Step Communities is looking to fill an Facilities Specialist opening for their growing number of Safeground sites. 

The Facilities Specialist is responsible for facilitating the day-to-day operations of the North A Street Campus, The Grove EBH, and SafeGround Triage sites. North A Street has a services building and an 80 bed shelter. The Grove is a 24 cabin community for Transition Aged Youth (TAY), and the City SafeGrounds have approximately 200 residents. Each site requires specific supplies and has differing maintenance needs.

Work Schedule: Full-time 

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
●    Ordering and/or purchasing of supplies for North A Street, The Grove EBH, and SafeGrounds.
●    Keeping restroom trailer propane tanks full – monitor, purchase, reload for The Grove EBH.
●    Provide the first line of defense for facility  maintenance (except normal  cleaning) at North A Street, The Grove EBH, and SafeGrounds.
●    Complete site reviews quarterly to provide recommendations for site improvements that management can share with the County, City, or SHRA.
●    Determination of whether a maintenance issue requires vendor support or can be done internally. This will require working with management at all sites.
●    Maintaining equipment and tools for both sites, i.e. vacuums, mops, brooms, tool sets, etc.
●    Drafting and updating of FSC Safety Plan including interface with Workers Compensation insurance requirements.
●    Safety training bi-annually for all employees. This can include handouts and short presentations.
●    Book CPR and First Aid training for employees. This includes working with site managers to determine who should be trained.
●    Escalate to Management’s attention any observed or suspected abuse and/or neglect of children, disabled individuals, dependent adults and elder/senior citizens.  
●    Regular, predictable attendance is required.
●    Ability to get along and work effectively with others.
●    Maintain a professional work space or office and help organize or tidy supply storage.

Qualifications:
    
Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or certifications for basic facility and property maintenance and repairs. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  A current CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance are required.

Other Skills and Abilities:  
●    Understanding of the homeless population and their unique needs.
●    Strong verbal communication and listening skills.
●    Ability to exercise extreme patience.
●    Must be comfortable working with people and flexible in unpredictable environments.
●    Ability to think quickly and respond calmly to stressful/ emergency situations.
●    Ability to prioritize tasks and duties.
●    Ability to be a trustworthy team member and possess a company debit card.
●    Effective time management.

Pay Rate: $18-$20 per hour.
