Hours of work: 40 hours per week / some flexible evening and weekend hours, plus international travel required.

Background

In February 2019, First Draft is launching CrossCheck International, a global network of journalists, researchers and analysts working collaboratively to investigate and accurately report instances of mis- and disinformation, and campaigns of manufactured amplification.

CrossCheck International projects bring together multiple news organisations around the world, and First Draft will be supporting this work by opening a number of regional bureaus throughout 2019. These bureaux will be hosted by partner universities to help FirstDraft achieve its mission of upskilling and providing real world experience to the next generation of journalists via student newsrooms and other initiatives, designed in collaboration with university faculty.

Job Purpose

As we undertake this expansion, we’re building a digital content team who can help to raise awareness of our work internationally. As the Lead Designer you will support both the Digital Content Producer and the Product Manager to enhance all public and partner experiences of our suite of training resources, digital content and the CrossCheck International platform. You will work closely with our Marketing team to oversee the development and appropriate application of First Draft and CrossCheck brands. Your portfolio will highlight your proven ability to demonstrate ideas through printed or digital collateral, experiential or environmental.

You will be based in our London headquarters, reporting to the Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all graphic design outputs for First Draft and CrossCheck International including:

    • Motion: Social campaign video edits, Event screen visuals, LED banners

    • Print and Web: Campaign key art; Posters; Invitations; Booklets; Reports; Apparel; Web banners; Infographics; Data visualisation

  • Manage user experience of the CrossCheck International platform, training materials and interactives in partnership with the Product Manager

  • Design all digital training support materials and resources

  • Assist with studio and live output production where appropriate

  • Work in partnership with our external development team

  • As lead designer you will be in charge of overseeing all creative output / quality control. Ensuring that the First Draft / CrossCheck brands are applied consistently and confidently across all areas of the organisation

Experience/Key Competencies:

Essential

  • Manage all graphic design outputs for First Draft and CrossCheck International including:

Desirable

  • Experience working with online training materials
  • An eye for typography and general knowledge of typographic principles
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of digital marketing, including an active interest in social media
  • A good working knowledge of wireframing tools such as XD, Sketch, Figma
