Job Description Overview
FiberRise is currently in need of a Network Engineer dedicated to serving our customers’ network engineering needs. The Network Engineer serves as the principle technical representative to our customers in the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of their carrier network.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform installation, configuration, and support of customer’s Central Office network devices, systems, and related equipment.
- Responsible for the daily performance and availability of the network with an emphasis on 5x9’s availability.
- Resolve all Tier 1 and Tier 2 escalations in a Carrier Network environment.
- Develop and follow detailed MOP’s/SOP’s related to the deployment and maintenance of equipment to ensure interoperability and network availability.
- Provide customer oversight related to network upgrades, capacity planning and life-cycle management.
- Acquire and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all customer equipment and software related to their delivery of services.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date documentation related to topology and configuration specifications of the network.
- Ensure front-line customer satisfaction by dealing professionally and effectively with our customers and their customers.
- Support the customer’s Operations Department with an emphasis on mentoring and elevating the skill set of the customer’s technical team.
- Review and develop best practice policies to promote operational continuous improvements and efficiencies.
- Assist with procurement of equipment and vendor management.
- Oversee and manage FTTx network installation and upgrade projects.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of advanced routing and switching protocols.
- Ability to effectively schedule and meet critical project deadlines in a multi-project environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment or independently, with little or no supervision.
- Ability to solve complex problems and take decisive actions.
- Detail oriented and dedicated to quality and accuracy of work.
- Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related discipline preferred. Associates degree in related discipline is acceptable.
- 3+ years of network support experience in a Service Provider/Carrier environment.
- Experience working in a multiple vendor environment configuring and supporting core transport, routing, and switching hardware including Ciena, ECI, Arista, Cisco, Juniper.
- Experience configuring GPON and XGS-PON FTTx access gear from Adtran, Calix, Zhone.
- Advanced knowledge of OSI model Layers 1-4.
- Active CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent certifications. CCNP or JNCIP preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6.
- Advanced knowledge of advanced routing and switching protocols including ISIS, BGP, MPLS, RSVP-TE and VRRP.
- Experience configuring virtualized server environments, such as VMware or KVM.
- Experience configuring Linux systems for DNS, DHCP and OSS/BSS applications.
- Experience with Linux automation systems, such as Ancible.
Job Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualification:
- 5+ years of work experience responsible for designing, deploying and operating large-scale networks
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting routing and switching protocols (BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, RSVP-TE, VRRP)
- Working knowledge of network protocols (TCP/UDP, DHCP, DNS) and experience with IPv4 and IPv6
- Experience working in a multi-vendor environment with hands-on experience with networking hardware
- Working knowledge of physical infrastructure design including structured cabling and fiber-optic cabling
- Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and deliver against mission-critical deadlines
- Proven experience working in a team environment and solving problems with limited supervision
- Must be able to work onsite
Preferred Qualification:
- Working knowledge of 40/100G Ethernet and CWDM, DWDM and optical transport network technologies
- Experience with field-based work in Data Centers, Colocation Facilities, Internet Exchanges, or Central Offices
- Experience configuring FTTX GPON access gear, Cisco, Adtran and Juniper network equipment a plus
- Familiarity with the Linux based systems and experience with scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Perl)
- Technical leadership capabilities and people management experience
