Brief Job Description
Felton’s Family Developmental Center offers integrated family support and mental health services to diverse families in our early care and education settings in San Francisco. Additionally, we provide comprehensive, two generation, holistic, wrap-around services to families with young children (0-5) who have experienced trauma. Felton is seeking a bicultural, bilingual mental health professional, who is enthusiastic, talented and has experience working with the multicultural communities. The position requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in health and social service fields, knowledge of child development, ability to bridge and build relationships, and experience with or interest in providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The primary goal is to support and strengthen the relationship between a young child and his or her parent (or caregiver) as a vehicle for restoring the child's sense of safety, attachment, and appropriate effect and improving the child's cognitive, behavioral, and social functioning. We accomplish this through client-centered, nonjudgmental, culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
Under the supervision of the Family Support Director, the LCSW is the primary interface for access services such as peer/family counseling and support, screening, assessment, brief treatment, consultative services, education and engagement, linkages, outreach and advocacy. The LCSW will sit down one on one with families and offer mental health therapy (based on a Trauma-Informed Care approach) to help them improve the quality of their lives. The LCSW will also oversee the Case Management work of advocates who provide direct support and advocacy services geared to enhancing the development, problem-solving, and coping capacities of the families; provide resources and services; linking families with systems that provide them with resources, services, and opportunities; information and referrals to outside agencies and to the legal department as appropriate and the LCSW will coordinate/oversee the work of the Social Worker interns assigned.
The LCSW will be an advocate for a child who may experience severe behavioral problems at FDC and work within a multidisciplinary team to support child with necessary resources. The LCSW will work primarily with children and their parents who may be struggling with learning disabilities, behavioral problems, substance abuse, and/or poverty. The LCSW will also help families work toward meeting their life long / educational goals. The LCSW will \assist families in mobilizing resources to address formal social service needs, including: Cal Fresh, housing, and offer case management services, which provide coordination of internal/external formal supports that are crucial to strengthening family stability and positive functioning. The LCSW will evaluate needs of families and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The LCSW may also assist with family, parenting; suicide; stress management; problems with self-esteem while providing a safe and supportive environment and adhering to laws regarding confidentiality and reporting requirements. The LCSW will maintain accurate detailed observation and progress records for later electronic billing data entry. Additional duties as needed.
Assessment, Teaching, and Implementation of Identified Goals for Children/Families
- · Conduct brief, non-stigmatizing screenings to evaluate the needs of children, adolescents and adults, for mental health and support services, based on direct interview and interaction with the family and/or discussion with other staff members who interact with the family. Assess, evaluate, formulate and implement treatment plans for clients
- · Perform comprehensive assessment for mental health, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, domestic violence and medical needs. Conduct follow-up as appropriate based on results of evaluation.
- Provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, facilitate Multifamily Groups, collateral work, case management and crisis intervention
- · Developing cultural humility and sensitivity to bias, including an understanding of historical trauma, systemic racism, culture of poverty, and epigenetics
- · Understanding the role of Protective Factors for prevention and for building strong families
- · Addressing families with sensitivity to minimize harm and to support healing, utilizing knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences and acknowledging the need for trauma informed approaches
Referrals & Case Management
- · Provide early interventions and referrals to specialty mental health services, including referral for more intensive psychological or psychiatric support services, if needed.
- · Conducts ongoing periodic evaluation and at exit of program for all clients. Conduct patient satisfaction surveys with all patients receiving services. Also, participate in program development and evaluation, and collect and compile data as required by program and funding sources.
- · Facilitates and oversees Case Management and Support Groups for victim’s domestic violence.
- · Handles client concerns with regards to counseling issues.
- · Empowering families by helping them develop the skills and connections to advocate for themselves, and support families in learning to use limited resources most efficiently
- · Recognizing and addressing systemic barriers to accessing resources
Supervision & Administrative Duties
- · Document findings in client records according to established protocol. Submit monthly reports on number of unduplicated clients, behavioral health consultations, screenings, assessments and brief treatment encounters provided.
- · Maintain client records, including all mandated agency forms in accordance agency policy, state Confidentiality and HIPPA laws. Keep all records and information confidential. Maintain confidentiality regarding privileged administrative and client information in a professional manner.
- · Keep case load as required and ensures case documentation is up-to-date and reflective of services provided.
- · Report suspected child and adult abuse and follow up on all such reports.
- Meet all deadlines and comply with agency requirements around the documentation of your work
- · Attend supervision, agency-wide meetings, and represent the program and agency professionally
- · Supervision of interns.
- · Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- · A minimum of 2 years of direct service experience in early childhood mental health or early childhood education
- · A minimum of 1 years of conducting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- · Knowledge of San Francisco County Community Mental Health Services, paperwork and community resources preferred
- · Knowledge of individual/family dynamics
- · Knowledge of child & adolescent growth and development, youth development and leadership principals
- · Knowledge and familiarity with multi-cultural populations, especially African-American, Asian and Latino
- · Knowledge and experience with evidence-based practices, including trauma informed care framework.
- · Committed to culturally informed practice and a multicultural learning environment
- · Knowledge of DSM-IV/ DSM V diagnoses
- · Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunction

- · Open to learning and implementing Evidenced Based Practices
- · Ability to carry out community assignments including those connected to the school sites

Education, certification, and licenses
- Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field from accredited university.
- LCSW or LMFT in good standing in State of California with minimum two years post-licensure
· Must pass and maintain annual Tuberculosis Test
· Must pass Department of Justice Fingerprint screening
Compensation and benefits
· Salary range $65k to $70k annually depending on qualifications and experience, this is a full time –exempt position with benefits. All full-time positions are eligible to participate in medical health benefit plans including dental, vision, 403(b) plans. We also offer 21 vacation days, 15 sick days, 12 paid holidays, and on-going opportunities for learning.
