Job Description

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is the leading local hunger-relief organization in the state with locations in Milwaukee and Appleton. Founded in 1982 by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is a local and independent member of the Feeding America network. Driven by our mission to solve hunger and our vision of a hunger-free Wisconsin, we are bringing more people together around the table to collaboratively address the root causes of hunger. Together with our network partners, we serve nearly half a million food-insecure people across 35 counties in eastern Wisconsin each year.   

JOB PURPOSE:

To oversee the financial and administrative systems of the organization including finance, accounting, payroll, and IT. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, participate in a range of financial, strategic planning and internal initiatives. Work with the CEO to support the Board of Directors' Finance and Audit committees. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting materials
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the finance, accounting, payroll, foundation financials of the organization
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring financial and operating performance
  • Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements
  • Support organizational audits such as: inventory audit and AIB audits and work with COO to conduct bi-annual inventory test-audit
  • Oversee and manage IT relationship with 3rd party IT vendor and internal IT Coordinator
  • Create processes and standards for selection, implementation, and support of systems.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, present financial information to the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board and general Board, and to the FAEW Foundation
  • Provide compliance oversight on government resources awarded to the organization.
  • Work with department leadership to develop budget plans.
  • Hire, supervise, train and evaluate department staff. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Commitment to understand and support FAEW’s mission, vision, and effective actions to end food insecurity and its causes.
  • Respect for the people FAEW serves and commitment to learn the causes of their food insecurity and need.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting 
  • Five-to-ten years of experience in a key financial reporting position, CPA preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting
  • Experience with audit, legal compliance, and budget development
  • Proven effectiveness managing others, empowering them to make decisions
  • Experience effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, the Board or other external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting and budget operations for a non-profit organization
  • Expert knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems and federal and state financial regulations 
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections 
  • Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with great attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting software and Excel
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be open-minded of differing opinions and views.
  • Valid Driver’s license, proof of insurance and transportation to support work activities 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, and/or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds while moving files or small packages. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to work from home is a flexible work arrangement that Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin (FAEW) offers to enable employees to achieve a more successful balance between work responsibilities and family life. FAEW may offer this option to employees when it benefits both the organization and the employee. However, our FAEW facilities serve as a critical hub for collaboration and, while we want to embrace flexibility, the need to be in the office or out in the field and working on projects or networking through natural camaraderie, will be expected. This position does have the capacity to work from home in our hybrid work from home model.
