Job Description

Federal Professional Solutions (FPS) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mid-Level Network Engineer for duty. We are seeking a mid-level network engineer candidate who can operate in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. This mid-level network engineer candidate will be responsible for installation, configuration, updating and maintenance of network devices for a DoD standard in a large-complex environment. If you are a great troubleshooter who can see above the fray and identify improvement opportunities with a knack for impressing the client, you will find a great new home with FPS in this mid-level network engineer position.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, update, and maintain network devices for a DoD standard in a large-complex environment.
  • Manage network layer routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP in a large-complex environment with multiple WAN connections.
  • Manage switched architecture to include creating VLANs, managing VTP domains, spanning tree, DHCP spoofing, ARP spoofing, 802.1x, and port security.
  • Monitor networking equipment and maintain activity logs via Syslog tools.
  • Document systems and network infrastructure in various written formats (VISIO, MS Project, Word, etc.)
  • Familiarity with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and Network Certification and Accreditation.
  • Implement complex hardware deployments, software upgrades, and significant projects.
  • Perform Tier II-III problem management, isolation, and resolution.
  • Monitor system capacity (CPU, memory, ports, disk space, etc.) and take appropriate action to report and correct any issues.
  • Coordinate with Project Management, Security, Asset Management, Customer Service, and Helpdesk teams as necessary for problem support and project management.
  • Participate in DITSCAP and internal scans, mitigate RMF and internal findings, and launch security patches, IAVAs, and VM Mitigations as required. Install and upgrade software updates and security patches. Maintain records in CMRS, monitor signs of system intrusion.
  • Review and analyze daily reports and prepare periodic reports for network status and baseline performance; research, identify, and analyze trends of utilization and errors.
  • Use MHS Service Helpdesk ticket (ServiceNow) to document trouble tickets and keep track of issues and resolutions, establish/recommend resolution strategies accordance with fault, performance, or capacity-related items.
  • Provide 24 x 7 support for network devices and environment, participate in rotating “on-call” schedule, and participate in monthly weekend downtime effort.
  • Ensure corresponding documentation is accurate and maintained.
  • Conduct gap analyses as needed and provide results and recommendations to management for review.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Mid-level expertise in Microsoft operating systems (Windows 10/Server 2016/2012), DNS, configuration backup, and government security practices
  • Familiarity with DoD Ports, Protocols, and Services (PPS), STIG/SRG, and manual checklists
  • Hands on experience with router, switch, firewall, and IPS configuration
  • Understanding of IP based platforms and addressing, DHCP, DNS, Cisco products and technology, client/server computing.
  • Minimum of two (2) years hands-on experience is required.
  • Ability to solve complex systems problems quickly with little technical guidance and develop automated corrective measures.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communications skills; capable of interfacing with all levels of management, project managers, development engineers, Helpdesk team, and other technical and administrative departments.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or comparable experience.
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification
  • Shall possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, and perform the following duties:
    • Configure networking equipment such as routers, switches, and firewall.
    • Skilled in trending chronic problems, engaging in capability planning, analyzing security events, as well as preparing the corresponding documentation.
    • Good understanding of networking technology (Switches; Routers; Firewalls; Load Balancers; Security Products (VPN; NAC; etc.)

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Professional level vendor certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCSP, and JNCIA are highly desired.
  • Understanding of network monitoring systems, security network scanning tools ACAS, and Packet analyzer
  • Familiarity with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and Network Certification and Accreditation.

Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Salary: DOE
Salary Range: 80K-85K
